FreeWill Takes A Walk
Jul. 28th, 2015 11:33 pmSagittarius Horoscope for week of July 30, 2015
Much of the action in the world's novels takes place inside buildings, according to author Robert Bringhurst. But characters in older Russian literature are an exception, he says. They are always out in the forests, traveling and rambling. In accordance with astrological omens, I suggest that you draw inspiration from the Russians' example in the coming days. As often and as long as you can, put yourself in locations where the sky is overhead. Nature is the preferred setting, but even urban spots are good. Your luck, wisdom, and courage are likely to increase in direct proportion to how much time you spend outdoors.
If it weren't this place's rainy season...
Cue That Drum Machine Thing
Dec. 18th, 2012 10:48 pmI'm sorry I didn't get to hear your rap song today
My car was on fumes and I came to a station that would accept my plastic
I had to switch off the ignition so I could unlock the fuel cap
And that meant your would-be driveway moment wasn't gonna pass
I'll try to turn you all back on as fast as I could
The car's tank only holds about ten gallons...
But you're gone, and the radio already moved on to the next number on the playlist
And the deejay's left for the wings so I won't know what I've missed
I'm back on the street--that main drag pointed at the heart of town
Disgusted with the tune that replaced you so I turn the radio down
This errand is taking forever
I want to pull over
But I never do
That place I thought would never go away is gone
They've torn down the building and workmen are clearing out the rubble
Will it sit empty for ten years, or are they going to put something new there in a month
I don't know who to ask who would know or care
It's just a shock, though
I guess it will pass
This town just seems to have all the wrong businesses
Though I have no idea what the right ones could be
Stay here too long and you'll just want to move on to the next one
But the next town over is pretty much the same
And so's the one after that...and the one after that...
So why bother?
Where can you go from here?
That shopping center is an eyesore--the whole place is run down
They're replacing the old cheap supermarket with a cheaper one
So half the tenants that were there are closing or moving
The only place that seems to want to stay is a chain that has seven other locations here
Which makes no sense
They can't afford to do that
Yeah, my plan on leaving the house included that store downtown
But I changed my mind because I've had enough of messing with this traffic
If that traffic light had changed just a little earlier, before I committed
I could have taken that highway out through Baneberry
Now I have no choice
Back the way I came
December here only has one kind of weather
And the word for that kind of weather is "bleak"
It's bleak when it's cloudy because it never is cold enough for the snow lovers
It's bleak when it's sunny because the wind smacks down the sun lovers
There isn't even anything to satisfy the haters
So it's best just to be indifferent and give up caring
They won't play another rap song on the station I'm listening to
Because it's the wrong time of year
And they need to play something very long for a staff meeting
The deejay won't be back for at least thirty minutes
So I just shut it off
This car will be back in its carport before he returns...

Too Much And Not Enough
Jul. 18th, 2012 01:39 amOur former web connectivity host company took down Mum's website over the weekend. I'm mulling over having one made in her memory somewhere. I'll want to talk it over with brother and sister first, tho'.
I fully intended to post more often here...but my own connectivity has been horrible due to the weather. Either rain or heat. That and I haven't felt much like writing a lot of stuff.
Besides, what is there that I can write that you are willing to read? Riddle me that.

Playing For A Pot That's Mediocre
Jul. 14th, 2012 08:50 pmSorry for not posting more often...the weather has been awful to my connectivity.
A week or so ago, I went to a car dealer's promo event and won...a Tennessee Lottery scratch-off ticket. So today, I go to a convenience store to redeem it, get another scratch-off ticket, bring it back to Rather Manor, scratch it, and I've won...yet another scratch-off ticket.
I neither win nor lose.
Though some would say, after what I've already lost this year, karmically this may be an improvement.

I was more "into" Autumn in Florida than I was up North or here in Tennessee. Mainly because, once that first north wind swept aside the Monsoon Machine of May through August, a person could actually go outside in Afternoon and not worry about too much sun or the rains. Yes, you had to worry about Hurricanes more in Autumn than Summer, but the Hurricane season was over in November and the weather stayed fairly pleasant almost to Christmastime.

If It Isn't One Thing It's Another
Oct. 14th, 2011 11:46 pmThe weather causes this wireless connectivity apparatus to lose signals, especially heavy rain, or, as in today, wind blowing lots of stuff around the house. So a lot of times in the last few days I've wanted to go on line, I couldn't.
Now, I don't care so much.
Excitement for the day was a trek to take Mum up (and I do mean UP) English Mountain as a reward for her discharge. She'd never been there before.
I wanted to have pics here, but my camera was low on juice, again. Once we returned, I used the wonderful Radio Shack digital pocket multitester I got last year for mechanics class to examine every good AA battery I had and set aside only those with maximum charge for the camera. I'm sure I'll still need to buy new batteries soon, tho'. Don't want the heartbreak to happen again.

Dull Thuds And Interesting Crises
Sep. 16th, 2011 12:53 amThe Dull Thud of Autumn came; dreary, misty, overcast skies and a turn to chilly air.
Our Mail carrier's SUV had a flat tire when she came to our driveway, so she spent a couple hours in our hospitality while Dad removed the flat tire and I helped him retrieve and mount the spare on the hub. The Mail carrier told us that she had two flats this week, and was thinking that maybe Fate was trying to tell her to find something else to do. She's been a good Mail carrier, and we'll miss her if she decides to retire, but I wouldn't blame her if she does.

Extirpation
Apr. 29th, 2011 05:52 pmYes, that horrible storm system that hit the Southeast Wednesday night hit us too at Rather Manor. Luckily the blow wasn't a vital one as such...but Mom's garden was demolished. What hailstones and falling branches from stricken trees didn't crush was trampled underfoot by the recovery effort. Morale here isn't very good but we have to credit the British Royal Family and the wedding for getting Mom's spirits back above the red zone.
Cleanup and replanting are likely to take weeks. We hope to have help soon, but all across the area everybody has troubles of their own.

Yes, I Skipped April Fool's Day. So What?
Apr. 2nd, 2011 03:42 pmToday has been a day for the birds of prey. The Sheriff's Deputies are gathered at the High School...perhaps to set up a rolling roadblock or two later. The buzzards and hawks scull on the high breezes above our heads. It is sunny, but the wind chill makes it unpleasant to stay outside for very long.
Goodbye February
Feb. 28th, 2011 04:31 pmExtremely heavy rain today. Worst in years, IMO. The street in front of Rather Manor had flooded for a while before the water could flow to Dumplin Creek. This place needs a better drainage system.
Moonshine didn't need to have a new belt put on the engine after all. The previous change was only about 30,000 miles ago, so in theory it should be good for nearly again that much. But my thinking is if I have to take the car in for another service on a different issue, I just might have a new belt put on at that juncture anyway.
Mum's waiting on a contract for the re-release of one of her older books.
Poor Trevor Bayne. Today is his Daytona victory celebration in Knoxville, and the weather shut down the town. Welcome to fame.
