I did something wrong on Facebook last week, so this is post to see if my fix worked.

Just before New Year's weekend, I caused a circuit to overload on Rather Manor's box and it took down the hard drive on Precious.  It took a week to get my computer back, and the shop installed a new hard drive with some data recovered from the old one.  Today I bought an external case for the old drive; Precious can recognize that something is plugged in, but not what it is, so that doesn't sound like a good sign to me.  I think I'll need professional help, but I can't afford to get any at this time.

Repairings

I accidentally took Precious out of commission while trying to clean out the dust bunnies overnight, so it was in the shop today. The damage: a CPU chip (a second-hand replacement) and a fan for it. $100, mostly for labor.

Now I'm trying to get caught back up to things. I probably won't do too much of this though...it's supposed to be vacation time!

Something may be wrong with Facebook. I'm going to see if it picks up this entry here.

This post is only to verify linkage with my Facebook account. I've had to change my settings tonight and needed to see the result.

I hate when the firmware for my DSL modem overwrites the homepage information on my browser to give me an error message. When that happens, I have to purge the cookies and caches and restart, and then re-log into all my sites, which means remembering my passwords.

And when I get an error message from the modem, it usually doesn't mean anything because the problem it's warning me about has already been solved automatically. Sheesh.

Weirdness

Using my Smartphone to access the 'Net a few hours ago and for some reason it cuts out and goes through a restart.

And just a moment ago I had to do the same rebooting work with Precious.

Something is rotten in that nation between Germany and the Scandinavian Triad.

If the login situation is fixed then you can "now hear this!"

If you see this, it's a screenshot of an "audit" I did on my main Livejournal page. I don't know if this "syntax error" is what's blocking me from staying logged in. I'll have to forward this to LJ's managers/admins first chance I get.

Okay, I've tried removing the site's cookies again. I'm poking around trying to find other issues with Livejournal and why I can't log in as normal.

Just got back from Computer King to attempt to solve the issue with the OS. Turns out (since I couldn't replicate the problem) it had nothing to do with the OS, mostly the modem and how it accesses the 'Net.

I don't know what I'll do next.

Alas, poor Emerson twenty-inch television set with integral DVD player, you shall function no longer. Thus Master Horner, technician of Morris Towne, doth declare, remarking that thine circuitry is irrepairable. And so, Rather Manor's forced transition from analog signal and ray of cathode to digital over air and screen of flat is complete.

The fate of Emerson's carcass is yet undetermined. My first thought is to donate it to the Tech School's electronics program, but I expect they have no lack of such material. Every January Knoxville holds an e-waste drive, so it will probably go there if no better alternative presents itself. I'll find out tomorrow.

If any among you still require a digital converter box, the one we used with the Emerson is still in fully operational condition, and I have re-set it, its cables and its remote, into the packaging in which it had come. Contact me privately if you want it.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of November 15, 2012

"They will say you are on the wrong road," said poet Antonio Porchia, "if it is your own." I suspect you may have to deal with wrong-headed badgering like that in the coming weeks, Sagittarius. In fact, you could experience a surge of discouraging words and bad advice that tries to shoo you away from the path with heart. Some of the push may come from enemies, some from friends or loved ones, and some from deluded little voices in your own head. I hope you won't be demoralized by the onslaught, but will instead respond like a brave hero who uses adversity as a motivating force.

I'd requote myself from the Book of Tepid, but that can wait.

In other news, LJ seems to be back to normal on Precious, so it must have been an error in Windows that was corrected with the latest Update.

Ahoy!

For some reason LiveJournal is working better on a public computer than my own. Maybe they fixed it, or maybe I've got a systemic problem with either my computer or my ISP.
