Sagittarius Horoscope for week of July 2, 2015

There are lots of inquiries and invitations coming your way -- perhaps too many. I don't think you should pursue all of them. In fact, I suspect that only one would ultimately make you a better human being and a braver explorer and a wiser lover. And that one, at first glance, may have not as much initial appeal as some of the others. So your first task is to dig deep to identify the propositions that are attractive on the surface but not very substantial. Then you're more likely to recognize the offer that will have lasting value even if it doesn't make a spectacular first impression.

You WOULD have to say that to a research addict, would you?

So I gave up Publishers Clearinghouse for Lent and went back to it after Easter and got really bored with it of late.  Since the current Superprize wrapped up today, I'm throwing in the towel for a while.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of February 20, 2013

The Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his Eighth Symphony in a mere two months during the summer of 1943. He worked on it in an old henhouse on a former chicken farm. The location helped relax him, allowing him to work with extra intensity. I wish you could find a retreat like that for yourself sometime soon, Sagittarius. I think you would benefit from going off by yourself to a sanctuary and having some nice long talks with your ancestors, the spirits of nature, and your deepest self. If that's not practical right now, what would be the next best thing you could do?

Some would say that Rather Manor is a good place to start if you want a creative retreat.  But I have found over the years that we tend to bring in a lot of our own noise without realizing it.  So I don't know what the answer is here.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of August 29, 2013

James Caan is a well-known actor who has appeared in more than 80 movies, including notables like The Godfather, A Bridge Too Far, and Elf. But he has also turned down major roles in a series of blockbusters: Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Kramer vs. Kramer, Blade Runner, and Apocalypse Now. I present his odd choices as a cautionary tale for you in the coming weeks, Sagittarius. Don't sell yourself short. Don't shrink from the challenges that present themselves. Even if you have accomplished a lot already, an invitation to a more complete form of success may be in the offing.

As little as I have accomplished, I don't think I'm exactly swimming in choices or opportunities.

March of The Machines.

There was a part that meshed directly with the "firmware" portion of POI's Machine. Law offices, prosecutor and defender divisions are now commonly using analytical computers to research cases and collect evidence in the "discovery" phase. How much you want to bet that The Machine already is looking in on every single one of these systems to tell who's being investigated...and who's doing the investigating? Maybe even to recruit potential future assets?

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of November 15, 2012

"They will say you are on the wrong road," said poet Antonio Porchia, "if it is your own." I suspect you may have to deal with wrong-headed badgering like that in the coming weeks, Sagittarius. In fact, you could experience a surge of discouraging words and bad advice that tries to shoo you away from the path with heart. Some of the push may come from enemies, some from friends or loved ones, and some from deluded little voices in your own head. I hope you won't be demoralized by the onslaught, but will instead respond like a brave hero who uses adversity as a motivating force.

I'd requote myself from the Book of Tepid, but that can wait.

In other news, LJ seems to be back to normal on Precious, so it must have been an error in Windows that was corrected with the latest Update.

I don't think I'm successful. Do any of you readers out there think I am? If so, how?

What happens when you build your dreams? REALLY build them? What does that do to what feels familiar?

What happened was that after I'd done some work converting the Armor suits, I noticed that I had skipped one of the later Technical Readout books that I have in my collection. So I got out some ledger paper sheets, jotted down the converted facts and figures on 56 here-to-fore "forgotten" 'Mechs, and was all set to bubble them into my Database files--

--Only to find that not only does Precious lack the program that the files were created using, but the only other program I have for database work, OpenOffice.org 3.2, doesn't recognize the .WDB format. "It's not a bug, it's a feature" say the Internet voices.

So you are saying, "Well, why doncha re-install the software you DID use before onto Precious?" and that point is quite logically valid. The problem is the "security" measures that Microsoft puts on their software to limit your right to profigate it among your hardware systems. Besides, I'm working with a new operating system anyway and the old software may not work.

The data files are not going anywhere, and I have them on backups, so this can wait till I acquire the new version, whenever that will be. In the meantime, I'm saving myself from entering in five or six pages of hard data. This is not procrastination--this is taking the time to do the job right.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of January 27, 2011

"The greatest challenge to any thinker is stating the problem in such a way that will allow a solution," said philosopher Bertrand Russell. In other words, the words you use to describe your dilemma are crucial. If you're lazy or pessimistic about framing your big question, you minimize your chances for finding a useful answer. If you're precise and creative, you're more likely to attract the information and inspiration you need. This is always true, of course, but especially so for you right now.

But where does precision end and pedantry begin? "I'll take ten horsepower any way I can get it!"--Lazarus Long

Fail. Family time hasn't really been improved by technology. Unless you mean how having our food prepared on George Foreman grills, on silicone sheets or in the microwave oven are adequate improvements. For us, quality time is dinner time. We always eat dinner together. We don't let technology get in the way of that.

I'm the tech support for one side of the family. So sometimes "quality time" depends on me and what I need to do to make it happen. *shrug* It has its perks and it has its problems, as my LJ readers have seen over the years.

Hey.

I want one of those Oreck air cleaner units. The tobacco smoke from the farms burning their bumper crops is getting to me. Ugh. I know some glues that are less obnoxious-smelling than this stuff.
