My first digital camera--not the Olympus I use now but a no-name thingy I got a dozen years ago or so, back when I had a steady job and income. I never got to figure out how to use it, it was probably incompatible with my systems at the time and I eventually gave it to my brother who probably had as little success as I did with it.

(Yay, I made one of these!)

Enclosures

Sample enclosures I received yesterday from TEKO, with standard-sized Poker cards for scale. The large white one is called a Domotek, and it's bigger than I expected it to be. The middle sized one is an Ovotek, and the last one is a TBT-B. I received another catalog along with the samples that is also inspiring me...they have an enclosure that I can mount my old laptop's screen into and use it for my flight sim project, or a tablet computer, or an e-book reader, or...

I got my catalog from TEKO today (http://www.teko.it or http://tekoenclosures.com). They manufacture what are called enclosures for the electronics industries. Other people make gadgets; it's TEKO's job to wrap it up in a practical case that people can use. A lot of TEKO's cases are used in medical machinery, security alarm hardware, remote controls, scientific equipment, home/building thermostats, e-book reader units, smartphones and so on.

So why am I excited? My long-term flight sim dashboard project. I'm already seeing possibilities in console design and display integration.

Just before Seven this evening, an electrical spike hit Rather Manor and both Mum's office and my own. Mum's computer got through okay, but Precious took it on the chin. There was a strong smell of burnt circuitry coming from it when it was all over. So I get to go to Knoxville and Computer King for the bad news tomorrow. At least Precious is still under warranty.

The radio in my car is all I got. No videos.

Right now I'm:

1) Getting Precious up to speed;
2) Trying to figure out why Mum's Kobo won't recognize the .PDF e-books I put on it;
3) Wondering how I'm going to hook up the VCR Livingston gave me to the dining room TV, and whether I can get the hardware for Precious so IT can receive and process video;
4) Trying to plan out the Flight Sim Dashboard project.

I don't think it's been invented yet. *shrug*

Last vacation, I was relatively gadgetless. My camera was broken. I borrowed my brother's laptop or other people's computers, granted. But my last trip was somewhat low-tech.

Got my not-fixed digital camera back from Olympus. Going to see about getting it to a shop in Asheville that was recommended by a family friend.

Following-Up On THIS POST:

*) Reviewer Corps article is done and may be available on the IPMS/USA website soon.

*) Sweet Tooth just had a granola bar.

*) The hole burning a hole in my wallet just got filled in with a payment from the IRS. May go shopping tomorrow.

*) All-Seeing Eye is pained because Olympus Imaging America in New York State REFUSES to repair the broken digital camera 'cause it's five years old. "We'll hold it till July and sell you a sorta-new replacement camera for 'we promise' a fair price." Otherwise, All-Seeing Eye is screwed.

*) Inner Child sees that the air is too dirty to pway with bawoons. Blame the volcano.

Yes, I know it's lame. Only took me about 20 minutes, and by the Lucy Van Pelt standard, Art requires at least an hour.

...Every minute they spend watching is a minute they CAN'T spend running power tools.

Yes, if life only had a mute button option...

Kong still isn't 100% yet, but as more upgrades are promised, I'm not worried. Still, it's a chore to remember all the old usernames and passwords. Some of the programs that came with the service job are the latest available, but sometimes that's no improvement. I'm having to download a lot of hotfixes and plug-ins...and shut down useless or buggy "features".

And just when I think I'm getting comfortable with using this computer again, I'll have to leave it here for a week while I maraud across Florida and Georgia. *Sigh*

My entire lifetime of the thirty-one years spent before I got onto the Internet as it is now. Beyond that, probably the week I spent at Indianapolis for GENCON in '06, jonesing for a place where I could rent a laptop and net access. Unfortunately I can't say "never again" as I refuse to get a laptop or mobile service till I can justify it careerwise.

Out here in the sticks, disconnection is a frequent reality. I don't have mobile or high-speed, so there have been times when I've been unavailable for days. BTW, it isn't the cold sweats I worry about...it's the transformation to Mr. Hyde.

Well, I'm open to the changes but not completely there. I mean, flat-screen TV with a DVD/VHS combo deck, yes. MP3 collection but no listening hardware (Pod, compatible car audio), no. No broadband for downloading movies or music files or efficient streaming. Maybe it'll change in the near future but again, it isn't there yet.

That holographic design gizmo demonstrated in the Iron Man movie, when Tony Stark starts building the Mark II suit.

But more realistically, I'd settle for a nice e-book reader (~letter size screen!) with a bar code scanner, so when I go shopping I can (for example) see if a product is worth buying or not.
