The catalog from AutomationDirect.com is The Letter Bomb. The actual paper portion is bigger than a phone directory for Manhattan, and it also comes with a digital duplicate on DVD.

So why did I request one? They carry electronics components. A lot of which would go into the F.L.I.G.H.T.S.I.M. build if I could swing it.

And the word is Lusonema. It is the next step after Machinema/Machinima in that the video game PLAYER physically becomes a live action actor in the "movie" generated by the game.

How? One thing I hope to do with the flight sim cockpit project is to set up video cameras (some static, some with motion tracking) around me to record my actions in operating the simulator. I'd also have a microphone (possibly as part of a headset or helmet rig) to add my speech to the record.

In theory, a real-time compositing can be done in which I can be emulated inside the pilot's compartment of my virtual machine in the game, or in any playback "films" created from the game data records.

I bet people are already doing it. But if they aren't, I want to try for myself to see if it can be done.

Enclosures

Sample enclosures I received yesterday from TEKO, with standard-sized Poker cards for scale. The large white one is called a Domotek, and it's bigger than I expected it to be. The middle sized one is an Ovotek, and the last one is a TBT-B. I received another catalog along with the samples that is also inspiring me...they have an enclosure that I can mount my old laptop's screen into and use it for my flight sim project, or a tablet computer, or an e-book reader, or...

I got my catalog from TEKO today (http://www.teko.it or http://tekoenclosures.com). They manufacture what are called enclosures for the electronics industries. Other people make gadgets; it's TEKO's job to wrap it up in a practical case that people can use. A lot of TEKO's cases are used in medical machinery, security alarm hardware, remote controls, scientific equipment, home/building thermostats, e-book reader units, smartphones and so on.

So why am I excited? My long-term flight sim dashboard project. I'm already seeing possibilities in console design and display integration.

After doing those entries for the Ace Combat skin design contest on Facebook, I felt a little like doing the same for the aircraft in Hackett Continuum. This is the first of what I hope will be a series of profile sheets. Color and other niceties to follow; this is only a work in progress.

My techno-dilletantism continues. In search from a quote about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, I found Desktop Aviator, a maker of Flight Simulator-related hardware. Some of their offerings are tantalizingly reasonable costwise.

Which means I want to plan out what I want and how I want it.

My SECOND entry in the contest was accepted a couple hours ago:

So I have that along with my first entry:
http://acecombat.fb-apps.namcobandaigames.eu/picture.php?id=96

I've submitted a third entry but it hasn't been accepted yet. If they refuse it I'll alter it and resubmit it.

My third entry.

Another Page For The Coloring Book.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is currently having a contest for new paint schemes. My page is based on their download but expanded and improved upon.

The powers behind the contest say three entries per person, so I intend to submit a few. Watch this space.

Re: [livejournal.com profile] mravac_kid...

I found a website that has the absolutely latest version of European Air War with dozens of related patches for it...but as the file sizes are ginormous I'll have to wait till I can download them to Kong's HD and then install them onto Precious.

Okay, I learned over the Internet overday that through the use of the programs 3D Ripper DX and 3DVIA Printscreen I could reverse-engineer models from sim programs. I've downloaded and installed both on Precious--tho' it took temporarily removing a security feature on Internet Explorer to make part of it possible.

I installed European Air War and Earthsiege2 on Precious as well--but neither of them will run. ES2 says it needs more virtual memory--even though Win7 says that the next best thing to two Gigabytes is set on the paging file. EAW says nothing--just dunwanna work.

I think I need to tweak my hardware a little. Don't have the cash to do that just yet, alas.

THE NIGHT BEFORE MUNDA

It was the night before Munda, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring...no spoons and no mouse.
The maps and sectors were put in to place
In hopes that the Scav would make no mistakes.
The Scav was nestled all snug in his bed
While visions of enema danced in his head.
The take off next day was at T-ZERO.
The Scavenger hoped he'd soon be a hero.
His mission was to be a good scout.
His comrades awaited the sound of his shout.
The time passed slowly as onward he flew.
The moments grew tense, his anxiety grew.
When all of a sudden there arose such a sight.
The enema Bomber wing in all of their might.
Then down came the fighters they lanced through the sky.
Scav must report, for soon he would die.
The radio came on, the message was fast.
"Come Kotoshi and Bebop, on Twisted and Crash.
To the top of my sector I'm in 2 comma 2.
Hurry Grey Eagle, and Bushwacker too."
The fighters came down, their tracers flashed red.
Scavenger knew, he soon would be dead.
The flames then burst from the front of his Zero
Yes, he would die, but die as a hero.
As he started to burn he heard so much chatter
He listened to hear what could be the matter.
The radio broadcasted, the words he most feared.
"Scav reported the wrong sector, no bombers are here!"
His earphones turned red as his Commander exclaimed
"This could cost us the battle! God, Dweebs are a pain!"

Dash, I'm Board!

A set of Pilot's and Co-Pilot's instrument cluster panels from a Convair CV-240 transport (which was also used as an Air Force trainer for navigators and flight engineers). I put it on my personal Amazon wishlist. One more entry to go for the Sweepstakes!
