This post is only to verify linkage with my Facebook account. I've had to change my settings tonight and needed to see the result.

Note to self: Use the above link to Tumblr rather than the one in the Pinned message until further notice.

I've had laryngitis for the last some days, and I wonder how long I will need to endure the condition.

I've even thought very seriously about the possibility of permanent speech loss and what that might do to what's left of my working life.

It's not like anybody's ever complimented me about my voice, or invited me to speak just to hear me talk.  No, more often than not I'll be interrupted or cut off before I complete my trains of thought.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of January 30, 2014

Can you imagine what it would be like to live without any hiding and pretending? How would you feel if you could relax into total honesty? What if you were free to say exactly what you mean, unburdened by the fear that telling the truth might lead to awkward complications? Such a pure and exalted condition is impossible for anyone to accomplish, of course. But you have a shot at accomplishing the next best thing in the coming week. For best results, don't try to be perfectly candid and utterly uninhibited. Aim for 75 percent.

When it comes the old saw about the truth hurting, I'm something of a masochist.  I never could tell a pretty lie about myself.

Paid $110 today to shut off the account for the USB modems.  With seven months left in contract that will save us almost $240.

Can't bundle the plans we have left tho'.  AT&T stopped doing that, for some reason.

Goodbye Sierra Momentum Connect Device.

Hello Motorola NVG510 Wi-Fi DSL Gateway. Rather Manor now is U-Versatile.

Which means that I will be using this computer a lot more and maybe even posting actual posts on this blog more as well.

It took a lot of effort and money to get us here, and I'm very grateful for it, even if it means we have to scale back other plans we'd had this season.

...Because suddenly there's less on TV than there was just a while ago.

A Knoxville station went from being a RetroTV affiliate to an independent this week. Which means that they have less content to show and are showing a lot more infomercials. Retro was just barely keeping me interested; I'm taking that channel out of the queues for the TV sets.

It's been so long since I was blogging regularly that I feel overwhelmed with the idea of trying to fill in the backlog and get to topics I missed when I couldn't post. So I'm not even going to try. Besides, I want to hear from those who still read me.

My question to you: if you use YouTube, what are the must-see channels for you? I only subscribe to a couple dozen myself, but most of these don't update regularly or have a lot of content.

After I see your responses I'll add some of mine as a postscript.

1) Last week I went to a science-fiction convention, where I did all the volunteer work for a scale model competition that only had three entries. As a result...

2) I caught Con Crud, which has been particularly intractable this time around. Luckily, I'm not too demoralized about that because...

3) Amazon.com has just started their "win your Wishlist" contest for the season. So I've been poking all over the Internet looking for Stuff I Want(TM). Between that and my usual Research Addiction(TM), I've been fruitlessly busy. Just the same...

4) My Internet connectivity has been its usual flaky, unreliable self.

*feedback screech*

Oops. Sorry about that.

My internet connectivity just didn't dig my company over the last few days.

I don't know what the problem is but it's just so frustrating to muck about with this hardware and hope that it's working long enough for me to post something like this entry.

Our former web connectivity host company took down Mum's website over the weekend. I'm mulling over having one made in her memory somewhere. I'll want to talk it over with brother and sister first, tho'.

I fully intended to post more often here...but my own connectivity has been horrible due to the weather. Either rain or heat. That and I haven't felt much like writing a lot of stuff.

Besides, what is there that I can write that you are willing to read? Riddle me that.

It's really tough to keep up with them all. I belong to bunches, but I don't have time to see a number of them. Some I've let go for months at a time because I can't tell if anything is going on.

While I was asleep this morning, one of our family friends, Jessica, was here picking up a dozen eggs that Dad had gotten her from a nearby farm as per their usual arrangements. After she left and I fell asleep again, I dreamt that Mum was there in the living room with Jessica and Dad, getting them caught up on the goings in the hereafter.

I can't remember what she said.

Besides, would you really want to know?

Radiolab did a very good program on Artificial Intelligence; I heard it overday.

As I'm sure I said before, there is little in the way of problems that an AI could solve better than a human being as yet. Tho' I was thinking of one possibility.

Suppose a Cleverbot-variety AI were to go through your existing canon of social media output. Every face, space, tweet and blog. Every text, pic and vid. And then it would find "keys" in that content and ask you about them. Perhaps get to to think about why you say what you say. Maybe find your psychological or social "blind spots" and help you work through them.
