Ascending Order
May. 20th, 2012 04:18 pmI still dream of my mother just about every night. I guess she still weighs heavily on my subconscious mind.
Earlier this afternoon my internet connectivity refused to work properly so I decided to go to the area flea markets just to browse around. I pulled into the parking lot of one and in the slot next to Moonshine's there was a station wagon--and a helium balloon rested on its interior ceiling. Sure enough, I noticed a kid on his father's shoulder on his way back to the vehicle after their shopping.
Turns out today is Ascension Sunday, which commemorates the return of Jesus to Heaven following his Resurrection. Both it and Pentecost (next Sunday) are often excuses for church congregations to celebrate by releasing balloons and giving balloons to the children; since it usually coincides with the end of the secular school year it's often the end of the Sunday School year for the kids too.
I guess we're getting into a time of year I used to look forward to as a child, the transition from Spring to Summer. As an adult, that has lost a lot of meaning for me. Maybe that's the point of this "random encounter". For me, times need new meanings.

Yes, I Skipped April Fool's Day. So What?
Apr. 2nd, 2011 03:42 pmToday has been a day for the birds of prey. The Sheriff's Deputies are gathered at the High School...perhaps to set up a rolling roadblock or two later. The buzzards and hawks scull on the high breezes above our heads. It is sunny, but the wind chill makes it unpleasant to stay outside for very long.
Goodbye February
Feb. 28th, 2011 04:31 pmExtremely heavy rain today. Worst in years, IMO. The street in front of Rather Manor had flooded for a while before the water could flow to Dumplin Creek. This place needs a better drainage system.
Moonshine didn't need to have a new belt put on the engine after all. The previous change was only about 30,000 miles ago, so in theory it should be good for nearly again that much. But my thinking is if I have to take the car in for another service on a different issue, I just might have a new belt put on at that juncture anyway.
Mum's waiting on a contract for the re-release of one of her older books.
Poor Trevor Bayne. Today is his Daytona victory celebration in Knoxville, and the weather shut down the town. Welcome to fame.

*Sigh* Just when you think Spring has arrived here, we get snow or a hard freeze.
