A Moonshine By Any Other Name...

AUTORIA is a company that specializes in rebadging kits for cars built in Asia. Their target users are those with Daewoos and KIAs who want to somehow redeem their "face" with their neighbors. So the company offers the option of rebranding your car as a TIGRIS with new nameplates and new insignia.
In theory I could rebrand Moonshine in a similar fashion. I'm motivated by the fact that under current Tennessee law, my car is old enough to be sold to a scrapper without the title or other ownership paperwork, thus my car is a possible target for thieves looking for a quick buck. So if I could somehow make my vehicle look newer...or just different enough to make a thief believe that stealing it would be more trouble than it's worth...it would help me a great deal.

May. 17th, 2012 12:36 am* The Criminal Minds finale was done as if they had a possibility of the show being cancelled. I don't think it is being cancelled, but unfortunately they jumped a lot of shark this season and I'm not as loyal a fan as I used to be.
* This place, that seemed so cozy and even cramped when Mum was around, is so much larger and colder now that she's gone.
* I now have the hard drive from Mum's computer in an external case just like I arranged for Kong's hard drive. Overday I'll show it to my mother's writer buddy and see if she's interested in finishing Jane's last book.
* Dad found a Wal*Mart gift card in Mum's purse. I took it over there to see if they would still honor it. Turns out they would--but Mum spent most of it and it's only worth $1.13 now. Golly, what's the most special thing I could possibly buy there for a dollar?

On television in general or on television AND I get to actually watch it?
In the first catagory: Top Gear (original UK, please?), Torchwood, Doctor Who, Burn Notice (all of which I'm lucky to catch on recorded video).
Stuff I get to watch: CHUCK, Criminal Minds, Person Of Interest.

I don't know if any of my readers are as big of fans of the series as I am, but just in case you are and you haven't seen the first episode yet...
( Spoilers Behind This )
PERSON OF INTEREST
ALIAS meets Early Edition, with a good measure of Burn Notice thrown in (John Reese is basically a clone of Michael of Burn Notice--a former spy gone rogue). It's going to have to work to get an audience but I think it deserves one. The premiere episode had plenty of topspin. And since it's set in that Big Apple, I imagine a crossover with Bluebloods or CSI: New York might happen one of these seasons.

Back when I was a more active otaku I used to joke that we (my friends and I) wanted "Super Dimensional" lives but were probably more likely to get "Rumik World" ones. The problem with the "cool" stories is that they're also horribly dangerous ones. I love Chuck, but would you want to live in a Burbank where if you go to the big-box store for a barrel of cheese balls, you could wind up in a fight with master super spies? I love Criminal Minds, but would you want to be in a situation in which the BAU may be your only hope of surviving? Burn Notice is great--but would you want to live around these characters? Life On Mars...cool, but I don't know the British version. (In fact, my own "Hackett Continuum" was going to have some thematic parallels.)
I know this doesn't answer your question. Let's just say I'm still chewing on it.

CBS Announces The Cancellation of Seven Prime-Time Shows including Numb3rs.
Granted, the show ended with the high note of Charlie marrying his long-time lover Amita and taking a new assignment at Oxford, but I will really miss its presense. Rob Morrow is moving on to ABC's The Whole Truth, which looks to have a lot of topspin. David Krumholtz' follow-up Tax Man wasn't picked up by FOX, but I imagine FOX will keep it handy as a possible replacement, the risks being what they are these days. The others in the cast are already showing up in guest roles in other series, so the news isn't so bad...but I'll miss Numb3rs.
Meanwhile, I hear that The Big Bang Theory was picked up for syndication, so it'll run "daily" re-runs in addition to its weekly CBS prime-time slot. I'm not a fan myself, but I know a lot of people who are. (My prime-time of choice now is CHUCK and Criminal Minds.)

Starin' Into That TeeVee Set...
Feb. 13th, 2010 09:36 pm...I think it's kinda sad that Dad would sooner watch a Bruce Willis gangster flick than the Winter Olympics action.
The Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf is also this weekend and it's weird to see actors from shows I follow there (Thomas Gibson from Criminal Minds, Rob Morrow from Numb3rs). In terms of fame, how big is big?--how big is too big?--how big is just big enough?
And of course, you can't have Pebble Beach without Bill Murray. Nuff Said.

When I noticed that some Criminal Minds fans were starting an LJ Community for Real Person Fanfiction based on the series, I wondered a little about what they meant...so I looked up the Wikipedia entry...
Oh...kay...
So the concept is based on the premise that the celebrity is the subject of the story, not necessarily the character. And this has been going on since the Bronte kids put the Duke of Wellington's family through a set of literary paces that had nothing to do with history or then-current events.
I can't remember ever doing anything like this. Chillin' Out, however, is a special case, that I want to elaborate upon.
In it, I basically play myself as the story's central character. I'm the only "real" person in the cast; everbody else is an invention. Nothing that I've written about my central character is blatantly contradictory to my own living self. I don't give my real name in full in the story but there are enough clues in the text to say who I am--even though it was written ostensibly under the pseudonym I use here.
But would I be comfortable if I found that SOMEBODY ELSE had been writing fiction about me based on what they read in Chillin' Out? That's a tough question to answer...but I may have to if I get Chillin' Out complete and published for a wider audience than it has enjoyed so far.

One Video, Multiple Topics Of Conversation
Nov. 2nd, 2009 04:58 pm( An Ad Campaign Currently Running On US TV )
1) Being a Criminal Minds fan, I have to look askance when anybody says "Unsub".
2) My brother is a big-time Madden fan, as using an earlier version allowed him to perpetuate a virtual football league he and I and other friends started circa 1980. Before computers, we used a Coleco football game that consisted of a box with an electric light inside, illuminating translucent cards that represented offensive and defensive plays, plus spinners to randomly calculate yardage and success in field goal kicks.
The EA developers say that the models used in the commercial are basically the same ones developed for the Wii version of Madden 10.
3) Sustenance and Sustainability: It has been my belief for many years that when science concocts the first completely synthetic meat substitute, it would most resemble white-meat chicken, white-meat turkey or veal. Just an instinctive supposition, without any reasoning behind it. Artificial guys huckstering for real food--now. Artificial food--when?
On "Fresh Air" on National Public Radio they are doing a multipart story on fisheries and how overfishing is causing real problems both ecologically and economically. As much as I love to eat fish, and think I don't eat enough, I wonder if I'll have to give it up just because it will run out for a generation or more. Or worse, be gone for good. That farm-raised Tilapia from China doesn't seem so evil now.

Battler Britton. Didn't know about it till a friend told me just as the Wildstorm revival came out.
Five Fandoms That Currently Mean a Lot To Me
1. Numb3rs - I hang out on the official forum.
2. Shortpacked! - I fear that this latest Robin/Ethan/Conni storyline is causing the strip to jump the proverbial shark, but I have some faith in Willis' abilities as a 'toonist.
3. Criminal Minds - Well, I am a little annoyed at the fans who perpetually want pretty-boy Dr. Reid to have gay sex with the other male characters...
4. Knights of the Dinner Table/Fuzzy Knights - What can you say? I have a hot streak going for suggesting cover ideas!
5. My Own Fans (for Chillin' Out) - I need their support if I can get the print compilation to launch.

Okay...
Shopping with bro Dana:
* Went in a leather store that was closing. Almost had a run in with a security guard when I showed Dana the gloves I already had...guard saw me put my own gloves back in my bomber jacket pocket and I had to explain to him that I wasn't shoplifting.
I told Dana that the only way that a leather store can guarantee a sale from me was if they had a Fifty Mission Crush. Then I had to explain what one is.
* Got two pair of slacks at a Proffitt's that was also closing. Tried on a blazer...didn't have money for one, and it was too big anyway. Stores around here don't stock stuff for shrimps like myself.
* Met one of Dana's buddies when he paid one of his bills. I won't say which friend or which bill. That's Dana's business.
* Dana showed me his favorite T-shirt store, and was disappointed that they had sold out of Big Lebowski shirts.
* Between a couple Dollar Generals in Asheville and a few more here in Tennessee, I'm down to needing only three G-Gundam DVDs and four Gundam Wing TV disks. But now I'm going back (TN-location stores, of course) to look for Argentosoma DVDs, as it was a short series and it looks intriguing.
* Dana trounced me at the arcade, but he usually does that.
* In Best Buy, I pointed out to Dana some of the DVDs that were on the household wishlist at Columbia House. He approved my taste and vowed to borrow some of the content once we got it. (Perhaps this week I'll have it on the blog. Gives me an excuse to alphabetize it.) I was very surprised to see Rock & Rule on DVD. Reviews say that the soundtrack was remastered--I certainly hope so! The broadcast and VHS cuts sounded like crud.
* Dinner was partaken at Little Venice, a nice little place. Meat-lovers' pizza and garlic toast. Dana won a gift certificate from a radio station trivia contest.
* While we were at my sister's house, we hashed details of coming events--and then came upon a matter that Lynn called "the Steven effect"...but on further review, I'm dubbing "Steve-pattern baldness". This is the unexplained loss of hair on the lower shins. Both myself and Lynn's fiancee Steve L. suffer from this affliction.
* We also talked about various pratfalls that occurred to various members of the family, but to mention them further would force me to break my New Year's Resolution about exercizing more absolution in my life. Everybody, you are forgiven, and I am actively forgetting for your sake. You know who you are.
* I showed bro, sis and soon to be Brother my blog. Nuff said there.
* Got back to the house too late to catch Criminal Minds. Well, they'll rerun it in April.
* * *
After further review, I realized that ABC already has somebody who could easily replace Dick Clark as host to future New Year's Eve shows. He's already eternally youthful...more youthful than he deserves to be. He's been with ABC for a good long time, has a show with ABC now, and got his big break hosting a TV dance show. And he'd probably have a blast doing the show too.
John Stamos.
C'mon...you know it's the logical choice.

Will soon be correcting the "galley" for Mom's e-book release of her first book, BUILDING PASSION. I guess this will keep me busy for a while.
