Easter Sunday will be the 18,000th day of my existance.

Yes, I turned 45 a couple days ago, and couldn't talk about it much here because of the fact that it was also the end of the fiscal month and I was out of bandwidth till the next day.

The cake was not a lie. Thanks Jessica!

My other main gift is a black hoodie. I tried to take a picture of myself in it, but was frustrated by the digital camera's failure to focus properly. It makes no difference as I plan to get some iron-on transfers and alter its aesthetics, and due photography will happen thence.

Bought myself some older model kits, which had been part of a stash that belonged to a modeler who is no longer with us. He bequeathed his holdings to our Knoxville IPMS chapter, and buddy Paul is selling them off with the proceeds split between the club and the man's heirs.

Well, my own Birthday is in December (in a few days, in fact). Granted, I'm very lucky if I just get a couple cards and a cake.

Christmas, such as it is, is an elastic thing in our household. It happens when it happens, and some years may not necessarily include the 25th of the month. Bits and pieces happen throughout the month and might even extend well into January due to circumstances.

My sister gave me a Birthday Gift Card for Amazon.com today so I went and placed an order. I'm not going to talk about what I ordered before it arrives, but I wonder about how to muster the energy to keep on with the sweepstakes. Only have a few more days to go, tho'.

Going to have to buy a new computer. Since it is my birthday, and this gadget is gonna cost me most of my savings, I suppose I'll have to dub it Precious.

PS: Kong lived for five and a half years, which is a pretty good run for a computer these days.

Q: Did your Mom have a nice birthday?

A: She had a very nice birthday. And you know a holiday that involves gift-giving isn't over until all the gifts have been opened and enjoyed...so it's still ongoing for her. Today my sister and brother-in-law visited and treated her to a lunch of exotic foods guaranteed to help her through her health issues. Sis also gave Mum three new shirts.

A family/church friend gave Mum a Key Lime Pie for her dessert tonight, which excused me to finish off Mum's birthday cake. Oh, the duties I have in this family.

Today is my 16,000th day on Earth. Earlier in the year, I'd thought of celebrating this day instead of my birthday...but today it's harder to justify doing much of anything. Maybe over the weekend coming up...

On October 5th of this year I will be 16,000 Days Old.

Since my birthday is in such a horribly cruddy time in the calendar for birthdays, perhaps I'll do something special for myself on October 5th.

Got the facts from my dreams. In another reality, inhabited with another version of my being, today is my birthday, not the 15th. My wife surprised me with a birthday party at our home, with all of our friends and family attending.

I don't know who she is in this world. I don't know if she even exists here, or if so, whether our paths had ever crossed.

The home seemed familiar but it wasn't Peachtree, and CERTAINLY wasn't Rather Manor.

In that other world, I am successful in the ways that matter here. My glimpse into the other side was too brief to see what dark clouds went into the silver lining or the golden year.

But I have this intuitive thought: however jealous I may be of my other self's life, that other fellow must be jealous of mine in equal measure. So I need to know, S-Prime, what is it that you can't do that I can? What dreams of yours do I need to make true in this world? I have a New Year's Resolution coming, and I can give it to you to fill in the blank. My intuition tells me this is vitally important.

*) I treated Moonshine to an oil change and lube, but the place where I got that no longer has a car wash. Just as well because snow is forecast for the weekend. Want to get Moonshine a new set of tires before my long-delayed trip to Florida in February or March.

*) The Jimmie Johnson cap I got is nice. The 21 shotgun shell salute, that wasn't so nice. And I could have lived the rest of my life without the surprise package inside the water heater.

*) I made pizza for dinner. No cake or dessert but I'm holding off on that till I see my brother and/or my other buddies.

Some of it is already done but I did not plan it as such. Today I hope to reconnoiter Sevier County and see what may be available, as a buddy wants to shop here and I want to show him the best places. But my usual habit is to wait till after my birthday (December 15th) just to avoid overdosing on the crowds and the panic and the awful holiday music and kitsch.

Birthday prezzy.

Differs from the DC Archives hardcovers by having about 30% more material (practically everything before War Idyll with the exception of the Christmas story "Silent Night")...but presented in black-and-white from the inks. Great if you want a complete collection cheap, not so great if you prefer the better production values of the Archives.

Going to spend some time adding to my various notes on the series...and since I'm inspired, I'll probably add a little something to this blog in the coming days.

After receiving the DC volume for my birthday last year, I got the above volume this year, and I just finished a cursory cover-to-cover run through (looking for something I looked for in the DC book--imaginary places in the U.S.). The DC one was better in terms of editing and clarity of information...the Marvel one is more scattershot, including characters that haven't been used in decades (even Atlas vintage!) and excluding a good number that are refered to in entries of other characters or teams.

What's truly bizarre about the Marvel Universe is that it seems to be evenly split between New York City and the Galaxy outside the Solar System. West Coast Avengers? Okay. Alpha Flight? Sure. Excalibur? Aye. But everything else either happens in Manhattan or so far away from Earth as makes no odds. The Five Boroughs are practically a three-ring circus of superheroes and supervillains...makes you wonder who's in the Spandex trade over there.

More to come, later.

Hey.

Good!--Sis gave me a birthday prezzie today...a $42 Gift "Card" for Amazon.com! Going to need to root through the site and figure out what I want. I'm willing to take suggestions/recommendations.

Bad!--When I was writing Sis a thank-you e-mail, I found that the clipboard had been corrupted and was spewing the infamous "http://windows-scannercenter.com/?id=93087288166". I updated my IE, updated my virus scan software, and ran a virus scan...which didn't find anything. But updating IE helped. I also tried to update Flash Player (on the advice of one of the sites I saw about the suspect web addy) but I seemed to have the latest one that my computer could accept.

Ugly--Me. I need a shave and some serious grooming help. I attended Paul Francis' Xmas party this afternoon/this evening, broken by the tech support activity above. I saw The Dark Knight (on Paul's DVD player/big screen TV), which was good but not (IMO) up to all the hype I had heard about it. I'm very self-conscious at parties...something that has always weighed me down. Granted, I was also the newbie at the party and didn't know what to expect.

There are no coincidences.

Hey.

Again, I'm trying to make my family completely avoid the election coverage. All three of us have already voted, and in spite of the hype, the outcome seems to be a foregone conclusion...which will probably won't be confirmed till well into Wednesday or even later.

Anyway, the avoidance. This week, I bought a few DVDs...among them Standing In The Shadows of Motown (Mum's birthday prezzy) and Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skull (Dad's prezzy). The hope is Motown for the matinee and Indy for the main event. And I've got a dozen more DVDs of one kind or another I haven't seen yet either.
