...I finally got my 2007 Tax Refund. Not the Stimulus payment--the refund I should have gotten months ago.

Forgone conclusion #1) Fix the printer.
#2) New monitor.
#3) Get my watch checked up on. (The battery went last week. It's been three years.)
#4) If there's anything left over...another pair of slacks.

I'm still not counting on the Stimulus check. I've heard they've run their course.

Several years ago I saw a computer science program on Public TV that showed a piece of software that could take an existing MIDI file and alter it so it sounded like it was played with non-digital musical instruments. Well, I have the MIDI files I want to play with...and I can't remember the name of the software, or the name of the TV program where I heard about it. *sigh*

Hey.

Spent most of the afternoon in the library at Carson-Newman College today. Looking for something I saw years ago in an old issue of American Heritage magazine. The pros and cons about American Heritage:

PRO:
* Most libraries have the back issues, and they're often easy to find
* They're always well worth browsing if you're interested in History
* They're entertaining reads
* The magazine has a new website in which all their content is searchable

CON:
* The first twenty years of the run of the magazine was in HARDBACK format
* They tend to get beat up after years and years of use
* The website doesn't include the old illustrations, for copyright reasons (so sometimes context is lost)
* The website content is digitized via a optical character recognition software, and often posted without proofreading, so typoes creep into the on-line version (something of an annoyance)

Now, what I was looking for was definitely in the Hardback era of the magazine. I went through about a third of the Hardbacks in the C-N collection, and didn't find what I sought, so I will likely go back on Monday or Tuesday. Or I'll go through the on-line version and see if I can find what I want that, way...tho' I doubt that method has much chance of success.

Bah. If I was so interested in the subject matter the first time, I should have written it down the first time.

As a by-product of my usual chaotic research addiction logic chains, I found out that I couple fonts I have on my computer (and I suppose, more than just those--I just haven't looked that hard yet) will support Japanese--not just kana, but kanji!

So I'm thinking about various ways I can use these fonts to expand my know-how of Japanese writing in general and kanji in particular. As the kanji seem to be arranged in Japanese alphabetical order (niku ["meat"] is only a few characters from nichi ["day"] for an example), I might make some actual headway.

Of course, there are about 4000 characters in the set, so I doubt I'll learn all of them. I've only been studying Japanese twenty years--with no formal courses.

Looks like all of LJ-Land was out-of-order till just a few minutes ago.

And now I don't have to blog about the withdrawl that comes from not being able to blog, be blogged about, read others' bloggities and blogsights, and so on.

My mood was rescued when Ted Nomura (creator and artist of the Families of Altered Wars series at Antarctic Press) visited his series' forum at the AP website and answered a bunch of posts--including MINE!

Recognition is such a sweet thing.

Gawd, that's pathetic, isn't it?

Hey.

I, through a search of the Kenzerco Forum, just found out that I had been (post tense) nominated for a 2005 Kenzer Forum Award--but nobody told me about it! (I don't think anybody seconded my nomination, tho')

At least I got a Post of the Month Award and thus an elevation to Guru at the Antarctic Press official forum.

Sniff sniff...appreciation is such a wonderful thing.
