Sagittarius Horoscope for week of June 20, 2013

Astronauts on lunar expeditions have orbited the moon and seen its entire surface. But the rest of us have never seen more than 59 percent of it. As the moon revolves around the Earth, it always keeps one side turned away from our view. Isn't that amazing and eerie? The second most important heavenly body, which is such a constant and intimate factor in our lives, is half-hidden. I'd like to propose that there is an analogous phenomenon in your inner world, Sagittarius: a part of you that forever conceals some of its true nature. But I'm pretty sure you will soon be offered an unprecedented chance to explore that mysterious realm.

I can't conceive of any part of my persona--public or otherwise--that has any real mystery to it. *shrug* Perhaps I can't see it myself.

"Anyone can be nice (...) there's much more to life than that, there's the other side. Some call it the darker side; I don't think so. I think it's more fun that that."--John "Johnny Rotten" Lydon of the Sex Pistols

A little while ago I heard about the coming of Equestria Girls, an offshoot of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic that reimagines the cast as human teenagers.

All I wonder about this is if the rest of the "funny animal" cartoon franchises will follow suit...and what it means if/when they do.

What happens when Felix de-Cats and Mickey de-Mouses? Will the Tunes stay Looney with Bugs, Porky, Daffy, Wiley E., and Speedy as shaved apes? Does Darkwing need to be a Duck to Get Dangerous?

What are your thoughts?

...Or, I sorta feel like filking again.

Well, it was all that I could do to keep from blogging,
Sometimes it seems so pointless to explain.
But you don't have to call me "sbierce"...spammer...
You Never Even Called Me By My Name!
You don't have to call me "Suzanne Barker"
And you don't have to call me "Israel Khang"
And you don't have to call me "Ell Eff And Ay" anymore
Even though you say you're with my gang.
I'll stay online as long as Hotmail'll let me,
And I never minded much more of the same...
But you don't have to call me "sbierce"...spammer...
You Never Even Called Me By My Name!
I get spam from that Ace Hardware down in Phoenix
And ads from used car dealers in Portuguese
And crap about huge fortunes out in Nigeria
How did I wind up on mailing lists like these?
Chinese whores who want to emigrate Stateside
And housewives who all think married life is lame
They all don't have to call me "sbierce"--those spammers
You Never Even Called Me By My Name!

There may be more to this filk, but I need to do a little more research. Heh.

Labor Day

*Wonders whether to put on the Lazarus Long hat or the George Carlin hat...*

Okay. Let's see...

Capitalism is based on the premise that work has value but the worker doesn't. Well, that's fine if you're rich or powerful, but not so good for the masses.

Communism is based on the premise that the worker has value but work doesn't. That seemed fine for the masses at the time it started, but soon enough only the powerful benefited from it, which is why it's only happening in the most fanatical nations now.

Socialism is based on the premise that to give both work and the worker value the State needs to be in control of industry. But which industries? Only the big ones? Only the ones in which the State is the main customer?

I took two semesters of Economics in College and I don't feel any closer to understanding it than I did as a child. Too much of it is aimed at making the individual (or the company owned by individuals) rich, and too little of it is aimed at making a society's standard of living better. And too much of Politics is about making the individual (or political party) powerful than addressing the real needs of a nation's populace.

No wonder things are in a perpetual mess. Enjoy your day off. If you have a job to go back to this week, that is.

Andy Rooney On E-Books.

Andrei Codrescu On E-Books.

I think if any man could ever replace Andy on 60 Minutes, Andrei can.

My IMDB.com Reviews so far.

Want me to write more of these? Comment here and tell me what works of TV or film about which I should share opinions with the world. Things that you think I know more about than the average bear.

The only once-and-for-all resolution in politics is death, and there has been so much of that lately that any talk of war should either be silenced or it risks being followed up with actual bloodshed. We're in the same place now that our nation was in before Ruby Ridge, David Koresh, Columbine High School, and the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. What's so funny about wanting law and order, established justice, ensured domestic tranquility, promoted general welfare, the blessings of liberty and some professional integrity?

Be Glad...

...Be glad I'm not writing a long diatribe of distorted paranoia and politics.

I'm on nobody's side.

Which now makes me everybody's enemy.

I know that sounds paranoid, but the facts are what they are.

I've Updated My Presense In Blogged, tho' it doesn't mean much of anything to anybody I know.

Meanwhile (and this is Livejournal-related), somebody has been going around making nonsensical whines in lots of Livejournals--including MINE--about the character of Sevarius Snape and what happens in Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows. Let me make this as clear and succinct as possible: CUT IT OUT!

1) You aren't making friends, whoever you are.
2) I neither agree nor disagree with you. Harry Potter is one of those pop culture things I like but am not a super fan of. I don't read the books, but I like the movies. If you met me in person, you would see why I would identify with Snape on some levels. But I'm not going to get my dander up because of the story or what happens in it. (I have not seen the latest movie yet and probably won't till the DVD appears. I've been buying the Special Edition multi-disc sets when they appear.)
3) Your latest sockpuppet identity has been Banned from my LJ but not reported to LJ's authorities. Just showing up on somebody's LJ to rant and not engage in a more civil manner is rude and childish. Please, learn some manners and perhaps we'll get along fine.

*) We still don't have water to the bathtub after the pipes froze Tuesday night and cracked open yesterday...

*) Dad got a call from a bill collector trying to reach the previous owner of his cell phone's number...

*) I'm trying to get back into the mood to write or build models again. Else I'm going shopping in Sevier County.

As you may remember, I was following the Mainland Chinese Air Force's process to select a new paint scheme for their aerobatic demo team's planes. And that I posted filched videos on YouTube showing the proposed schemes.

Today somebody posted a long rant on the comments portion of one of my video posts and this clause was included (translated into English by me and Bablefish):

I kneel ask you to duplicate together the above card and to retransmit this card, the slight effort can also behave righteously. Thanks.

Thanks but no thanks. Really.

Meanwhile the PLAAF chose their scheme, but I don't have enough sources to share it. Watch this space.

Mobile phone, definitely. Because my mobile phone is a useless piece of technotrash that I don't know how to use, have never actually wanted, and nobody calls on it who wants to talk to me.

A couple years ago, a friend pointed me to Joost, because they host fansub anime programs that we both like. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the bandwidth to actually watch programming on Joost yet, so while I have an account, I haven't done diddly with it.

Sometime earlier this year, when updating my Like list on Facebook, I thought, why not include Joost so I could see what they're doing with their site, and perhaps learn more about how to use it?

Bad Idea.

Just looking over the current month of Wall entries makes me think that Joost ONLY wants the Lowest Common Denominator as their user base. Shillage related to Fashion Week, Dinner For Schmucks, Eat Pray Love, Glee, Jersey Shore (whatever THAT is), Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton--everything in pop culture that is 180 degrees from where I am. The last straw was yesterday when they did a promo for America's Next Top Model allegedly featuring Tyra Banks that disgusted not only myself but others in the crowd.

A long time ago, my brother wrote, for his college newspaper, an ode to Berry Blue Kool-AidTM that I wish I could quote. Suffice it to say that the feelings there mirror my feelings here--NOT EVERYBODY WANTS WHAT'S "POPULAR"!

The whole point of an Internet-based alternative video media outlet is to be alternative--not necessarily a mirror source for what we can already get from the Idiot Box. If we didn't want SOMETHING ELSE, we wouldn't need Joost. Joost, you're worse than lame; you're gangrene. Be glad I'm not deleting my account--yet.

Slogan from the Haslam gubernatorial campaign: "The best thing government can do for its citizens is leave them alone."

I read that as: "If elected I will fiddle while my state burns."

A list of the applications that I have BLOCKED from my Facebook account so far: Read more... ) There are probably more to come. There are some FB users I may just give up on because they never actually post anything, just play with the apps and be cute about it.

I had to endure about an hour of FoxNews this afternoon in a waiting room at the Mountain Home VA Hospital. Luckily it was just the headlines.
