Sagittarius Horoscope for week of August 7, 2014

Lake Superior State University issues a "Unicorn Questing Privilege" to those people who are interested in hunting for unicorns. Are you one of them? I wouldn't be surprised if you felt an urge like that in the coming weeks. Unusual yearnings will be welling up in you. Exotic fantasies may replace your habitual daydreams. Certain possibilities you have considered to be unthinkable or unattainable may begin to seem feasible. Questions you have been too timid to ask could become crucial for you to entertain. (You can get your Unicorn Questing License here.)

I'm already trying to build the perfect beast in the form of the Gundam RedLegger mobile suit.  It doesn't need to be a Unicorn...those are already done.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of November 21, 2013

Costa Rica will be closing its zoos in 2014. What will happen to the 400 or so animals that are housed there? They will have to be rehabilitated at animal rescue centers and then released into the wild. I suspect there will be a metaphorically similar process going on for you in the coming months, Sagittarius. Parts of your instinctual nature will, in a sense, be freed from captivity. You will need to find ways to retrain your animal intelligence how to function outside of the tame conditions it got used to.

Am I hard enough?/Am I rough enough?/Am I rich enough?/I'm not too blind to see!

I'm a Horse. I need my stable.

A little while ago I heard about the coming of Equestria Girls, an offshoot of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic that reimagines the cast as human teenagers.

All I wonder about this is if the rest of the "funny animal" cartoon franchises will follow suit...and what it means if/when they do.

What happens when Felix de-Cats and Mickey de-Mouses? Will the Tunes stay Looney with Bugs, Porky, Daffy, Wiley E., and Speedy as shaved apes? Does Darkwing need to be a Duck to Get Dangerous?

What are your thoughts?

Last night I finished off a box of my usual store-brand frosted shreded wheat cereal, and we needed other foodstuffs in the house, so I went to a grocer in the course of my errands today.

I gave the cereal aisle some very close scrutiny, as I don't often do the food shopping myself and because things have changed since it was that Mum and I would go to the stores together. Anyway, I was about to give up when one of my favorites from my high school and college years, Kellogg's Cracklin' Oat Bran, was shown to be close-out priced at half of retail...or about what we paid every week or so for the store brand cereal I usually eat. So I got a box.

I ate about half a cup of it dry as I awaited this computer booting up. The smell reminds me of the sorghum-delivery vehicle stuff I used to throw in the feed buckets for my sister's horses thirty years ago. I guess I really am born Sagittarius/Year of the Horse.

Nor do I like smartphones, for that matter. But for some reason this promo (for a network I can't get!) appeals to me. *shrug*

I actually do have more luggage for this trip than I did for the last Florida jaunt. And if all goes well I'll even have empty space in the vehicle for the return trip.

PS: What if I told you that when I was living in Florida, Peachtree was next to a horse ranch and we used to get spectacular scenes of horseplay outside our windows every so often? Or that the owner of Peachtree also set it up as a horse ranch? Both are true.

Born Year of the Horse, and Sagittarius--and on a Thursday as in "far to go". Prefer running shoes to formal footwear, don't mind a good jog or hike on occasion, and have been a transportation and travel junkie forever. But I also like a good cozy stable and a source of warm, sweet oats. And I like having a long mane, even if it's not in fashion. The Horse fits me pretty well.

The lead-in to the Saturday Tank McNamara: The bosses behind Big Time Horse Racing/the Triple Crown have hired some young "image consultants" to improve their public personae...

[Author's Note: Image removed. Punchline of the comic strip, the consultants think that a sure thing isn't to take their pay in cash, it's to take bets on Barbaro getting third-place or better at the Belmont Stakes.]

If you know what happened at the Belmont, you'll see why that was such a bad move.

Okay. Well, One side of my personality is explored in length at my website, which you can find from the link at the bottom of the screen called "Frustrated Pilot". Otherwise:

I'm still unemployed, with experience in fields I'll never be hired again for (retail and hospitality--I'm NOT a smiling face)...

I've been using computers since about 1983 or so. The first ones were Radio Shack TRS-80s, then a Tandy IBM clone got my family flirting with the Internet at the end of the Eighties, then a Packard Bell Pentium-I finally got us there in 1997. I keep saying that I like flight sims but I haven't really gotten far with those as I don't have the technology to really exploit them. A keyboard, a mouse and a joystick are NOT enough for me. I want a full function instrument dashboard, a HUD, a yoke, a throttle quadrant and rudder pedals at least! But enough about dream machines.

I drive a 2001 Chevy Prizm (Toyota Corolla, made in California) that I owe in upcoming payments about what it's worth. I'll have to get a job soon to keep the payments going. At least I know I'll be good through September. I'm still very worried about that tho'.

In the early 1990s I tried writing for comic books, at a company called Caravette Graphics/Samson Comics in Florida. I never got anything of mine published, although my former would-be boss there told me I was the most useful guy he almost hired for staff.

I've been an anime fan since about 1972 when I first saw Speed Racer. My full-blown fandom didn't emerge till after High School...I was into Doctor Who in High School. Even so, I don't watch much TV of any kind any more...Numb3rs and the Evening News are about it for me. My online novel (q.v. my website) and other Internet duties keep me rather busy for TV. The house where I live doesn't have cable anyway.

I'm out of touch when it comes to pop music too. I realise that I'm a child of the Seventies and Eighties (and a little Nineties too, I suppose) and that the record companies have no business attempting to cater to my weird tastes. More on that later.

I live with my parents. This is out of love as much as it is out of economics. Father is a cancer survivor and while he seems to be doing well now, sometimes he needs me around. I feel incredibly lonely an awful lot of the time and so far only the Internet is keeping me sane. In fact, I'm sure I'd test positive for some mental illness or another.

I build scale models as a hobby (airplanes, science-fiction robots, vehicles of all kinds except trains) and sometimes I write reviews for the IPMS/USA website or their magazine. I'll post URLs for my reviews in a later entry.

I'm a Sagittarius. Born Year of the Horse as well. According to the Book of Destiny, I was born "Week of the Titan" with a Karmic Path of "Grace"--which is supposed to mean I'm destined to do very big, very beautiful things with my life. Sitting where I am now, that's got to be a really bad joke.

More to come.
