Giving Up

Decided to make some actual posts here from time to time, as Facebook is balky about allowing LiveJournal to port my entries there over here.

For somebody who supposedly gave up Christianity for moral grounds I observe Lent a lot. This year the thing being forgone until Easter is recreational buying. So no new model kits, no vending-machine action figures from Japan, no new DVDs, no music CDs, no games or game supplies. Still in a quandry about books. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

GIMME!

My shopping-without-actually-buying habit has driven me to add the Amazon.com "Universal Wishlist Link" to my broswer's Favorites. Which means I'll be adding a lot of weird stuff to my wishlists there.

The odds of actually getting any of it is likely very low, but I have to try anyway. A Box of THIS, a few of THOSE, a couple of THE OTHERS and it adds up.

Too Much Is Happening--And Not Enough

Once again, HobbyTown USA in Knoxville hosted the Bizarre Bazaar for the gamers, and once again I took a load of game stuff there to sell--and wound up buying some stuff and selling nothing.

Once again, it was Free Comics Day and I missed going to a comics store. I doubt there were any comics I would have wanted this time, tho'.

Once again, the hot rods gathered at Tennessee Valley Fairgrounds and there was no point in my going to it. (I could afford admission--but had no camera that worked!)

Once again, I went to a donut shop and walked away without buying anything, due to my straight-jacket of willpower.

Once again, Sempai Mike called me to ask about stuff I already told him about or didn't know answers to.

Once again, storm clouds threaten us from the West.

Once again, Moonshine out-hustled more powerful cars at traffic lights, including two Mustang GTs in quick succession.

Once again, I miss good friends and good times.

Where The Will Is Free--But The Willpower Is A Shackle

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of January 14, 2010

"You can have it all," says fashion designer Luella Bartley. "It's just really hard work." That's my oracle for you, Sagittarius -- not just for this week, but for the next three months as well. According to my reading of the astrological omens, the cosmos will indeed permit you to have your cake and eat it, too, as long as you're willing to manage your life with more discipline, master the crucial little details everyone else neglects, and always give back at least as much as you're given.

I think I have plenty of self-discipline. Again the war with the donuts...I love them and haven't had them in many months and drove right past two donut shops on my way back from my meeting in Knoxville and didn't even feel like stopping. It's not like I'm on a diet. I'm the token skinny guy in the room. Why can't I indulge on squishy, sweet, junky donuts?

If I can't have the donuts why should I believe I can have the cake and eat it too? Riddle me that.

Writer's Block: Promises, promises

[Error: unknown template qotd]

My one resolution for this year was busted by the State Of Tennessee. Problem is I can't make them pay for it.

Wishing For More Wishes?

On my Facebook page I've linked to my Amazon.com Wishlist, although it still isn't very well filled in yet. Perhaps over the weekend I'll do a lot more to it.

Stuff. Yes, Stuff.

I'm sort of considering starting up my want list for Xmas/My Birthday (they are so close together that often times I'll get just one gift for both occasions from various loved ones/close relations).

The problem is that if I had a good paying job I'd probably just buy most of it myself. My priorities and my desires aren't anywhere near the same page.

Meme, Via [personal profile] cyclophile

Actually, here's a meme idea.. Go back one year in your lj, link it to your current entry and comment on it... what's the same, what is different, was the Denubian crisis of planet Zyborg ever resolved to the satisfaction of all MarkLark?

Okay, I'm game. July 20th, 2007 AD would be This Entry, and since then I've been sorely tempted again and again to buy two-for-one packs of doughnuts, and my willpower has overwhelmed my vice every time.

I only weigh twenty pounds more than my nephew. And I'm thirty years older than him.

Anybody Wanna Buy My Willpower?

Was at a supermarket a little while ago...

Saw that the store brand donut dozen packs were a two-for-one deal.

I didn't buy any.

I could stand to have a little less willpower.
