As part of a package deal, long ago, I got a pair of starter packs for the then-passe Doomtrooper collectable card game. Last night, I was looking through them and wondering what I could possibly do with them.

There is a restaurant chain in Florida called "Pit Boss", which has pretty darned good BBQ. One thing they did as decor was to set playing cards and poker chips in the tabletops and seal them over with a thick, smooth layer of transparent polyurethane resin.

So what if I did something similar with wall panels for a game room/"man cave"? Set up a theme of multiple "players", cards in hand (paper cutout palms) around a "table". If I could afford it, I'd somehow have a miniposter showing an imagined view of what the result of the play is. Hey, an action scene from a game magazine/module would likely work...all it needs to be is an impression, not an exact match.

I can do this with three "properties" based on what I've got on hand--the aforementioned Doomtrooper, Magic The Gathering and Gundam War: Gundam Wing.

But then I'd need a place with a game room. And wood paneling and loads of poly resin.

Idea man can't help having ideas. The stars can't shut up.

Hey.

I still miss the game of LiveTrumps/CombatCards. I was thinking about it tonight, and taking the thought further...

Why not a meme that generated faux "baseball" cards? Only the sport wouldn't be any real sport, it would be the pasttime of blogging.

The front side would have a graphic frame around your avatar, with your "team" and "position", and then you'd have a backside with your "Stats" from the previous twelve months and a spurious bio.

Yeah, it's probably been done before.

Which tarot card are you?

What was that Steven Wright joke about tarot? "Some of my buddies and me played poker with a tarot deck...I got a full house and two of my opponents dropped dead."

Actually I have no beef with tarot. I wish I had the wherewithall to create a webpage that did automated tarot drawings and did some limited interpretation.

1) While waiting for Live Trumps to re-establish its combat capability as Combat Cards 2.0, I Friended two LJ users who are my LT/CC "grandchildren". I have absolutely no idea who they are, only that they are thusly connected to me.

2) The Dollar General/Bandai anime DVD hunt progress report: today I bought Gundam 08th MS Team: Miller's Report, which I didn't expect to see. Saw the first half-hour or so of Red Spectacles the other day and deem it perhaps the weirdest movie I've ever seen. I saw the side-story/prequel Stray Dog in one of the DG stores...so I'm mulling over whether to buy that one too.

3) Priced CPU fan units at Staples the other evening. They aren't as dear as I thought they'd be...so I'll probably buy them soon.

Hey.

I had to get out of the house and go somewhere before the weekend, but I couldn't decide where I wanted to go. So I rolled a die. 4 equalled Sevierville, and so there I went.

There, I found that the Dollar General stores restocked their Bandai DVDs, so I bought three:
The Big O first season #3
Gundam 0080 #1
The Red Spectacles, a live-action movie from Oshii that unleashed the Hellhounds Police on an unsuspecting culture. I kinda liked Jin-Roh, although I must have been the only one to watch it on the big screen in Knoxville.

Since they've restocked, the hunt is back in season. I've appended the shopping list I keep in my wallet, but this time I'll try to concentrate on completing sets I've already started (Big O first season, Argentosoma, Stratos4, G-Gundam, Gundam W, and the Gundam OAV serials) rather than take on additional series I don't have (Gundam TV, Ronin Warriors, Banner of the Stars, etc.).

One product I wish was available to consumers is the DVD case that can hold multiple disks. *Pulls out Microsoft Works Suite 2006 package* Look at this case! Holds five disks in the space of two regular DVD cases! If empty cases like this were available to consumers I'd buy them and consolidate my stock. But no! All the electronics and office supply stores carry are regular size and thin DVD cases, which are no improvement. I can't even replace the mutilated DVD cases I have for The Aviator or My Fair Lady, because they both are special two-in-one cases.

Sorry for the rant, but this is what happen when I roll a die. Get used to it. :)

So, [personal profile] nick_101, who do you wanna deck?

Live Trumps IS NOT JUST A MEME! Once you've created your card, click the "watch ____ fight" and see the show! When that fight's over (if you use IE), click your "Go" on your address bar for another match.

I've already Friended two LJ users because their cards appealed to me and I visited their LJ pages to see what they're about.

In theory, you're supposed to fight all the way up the chain to the #1 card. I think I've only gone six rounds at most.
