Melancholy and Racism

Hey.
I'd been fighting back the melancholy for the better part of two weeks (mostly because I wasn't sure how my parents were doing after the death of our neighbor) but, of all things, an emotional funk came at me today, triggered by (of all things) a Motown R&B ballad on the muzak at Big Lots. (I was there in a search for a power supply for my digital camera. I'll probably get the one I saw at Office Max.) So far the sorrow has been on my head for about eight or nine hours and no signs of it going away anytime soon. I've got a cup of green tea brewing, I hope it helps, but I don't have all that much faith in it.
Meanwhile, I should disclose that I had had the thought of kidding that to memorialize the passing of Jerry Falwell, the local chapter of the KKK would hold a twenty-one burning cross salute. It turns out there will in fact be a white supremacist rally, probably in Knoxville, probably Saturday. The excuse is the upcoming trial for a gang of alleged thugs (who happen to be black) who allegedly carjacked and killed a young couple (who happened to be white) some months ago.
I hate racists. But I guess you knew that.
