If You Listen You Can Hear Them... (FreeWill Astrology)

Horoscope for week of February 28, 2013

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
"Don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter," wrote the Persian mystic poet Rumi. "It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." I think you're like that winter garden right now, Sagittarius. Outwardly, there's not much heat and flash. Bright ideas and strong opinions are not pouring out of you at their usual rates. You're not even prone to talking too loud or accidentally knocking things over. This may in fact be as close as you can get to being a wallflower. And yet deep beneath the surface, out of sight from casual observers, you are charging up your psychic battery. The action down there is vibrant and vigorous.

There were times I thought there was a lot of white noise in my bedroom. Now I think it's the sound of the sap running in the trees outside my window. This is the time of year for that to happen. Are you due for a Sugar Snow?

Writer's Block: White air

[Error: unknown template qotd]

No, thank goodness! It's been strangely warm and clear and pleasant in these parts so far. Of course, when Winter actually comes down on us I'm sure it will be different.

Writer's Block: Take me away!

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Someplace in the Tropics and/or the Southern Hemisphere...even though it's fairly pleasant here (and mostly snow-free) at the moment, I know it could change in an instant.

"Hey Lieutenant...

"...they scrubbed that 'volunteer' mission you heard about."--punchline from one of Bob Stevens' There I Was comics.

We have about a quarter inch or so of icy slush on the pavement, so driving to Knoxville to exchange some computer components to get Precious running isn't going to happen today.

*Watches Moonshine rest under her cozy carport*

I'm sure we can all abide by that.

Succeed, Or Dye Trying

Today the class projects involved the differing methods of inspecting components. As a result, my fingers have been coated with "penetrant" dye and it will probably take a few days to wear it off. I look even more frightful than usual. :(

At least I'm not as frightful as the weather is looking now. Cold and windy and not-sticky-yet pellet snow.

Quick Post To Keep This Thing Alive

The weather today is lousy...but Moonshine has brand-new tires.

There will be a drive to Knoxville tomorrow anyway.

Lazy Thursday

*) Watching the snow melt...waiting for the next blast of weather on the horizon.

*) Updated Mum's Adobe Reader and we used it to extract the last chapter from one of her novels so a friend can record it as an audiobook this summer.

*) Got a form from Medicare's official website downloaded and printed so Dad can try to get THEM to pay for some of his July hospitalization crisis bills.

*) Planning out my March trip to Florida.

*) Called the Court; they told me the check for my Jury service is in the Mail.

*) Dad bought a new display jar for Mum's Jolly Rancher candies and for himself a pack of black socks.

Time to get caught up on the rest of my online world.

Elaboration, With Possible Juxtaposition

Right now, we have perhaps half an inch of snow on the ground topped with sleet/refreezing rain mix. Which means that unless something drastic happens I'll probably spend both Saturday and Sunday completely in the confines of Rather Manor. But I did enough travel on the Mountain Home jaunt Friday to make up for it.

Since Dad found the copy of The Great Gatsby my thought was to have it to read in the waiting rooms of the hospital. Only I realized how familiar I happen to be with the book, and only felt the need to skim a couple dozen or so places. Read it the first time in High School, then again, likely in a break between summer terms or after I graduated college. Saw the Robert Redford movie at least once that I can recall.

The bizarre alternative fiction recesses of my mind played with the possibility of a revisionist antithesis story, one in which Gatsby comes straight back to Daisy after the Great War and forgoes his meteoric rise of vainglory. Would Daisy marry him, or keep looking for a Tom Buchanan? Would Jordan steal him from Daisy and ruin him? Something tells me somebody else had this idea first.

I may work on the final chapter of Chillin' Out soon...well over ten years after I started it. I guess I was spurred on...Gatsby had a hand in it...but so did other things. More To Come.

On The Snow That Isn't Quite Falling--Yet

"Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead."--Meyer Wolfsheim in The Great Gatsby.

Today's adventure to Mountain Home went well. No need to say much more than that. Dad is in much better health than he was a year ago when this crisis was about to strike him.

In Honor Of The Impending Weather...

And a part of me wants a "mash-up" of this song with Elvis' "Kentucky Rain"!

Rest In Peace, Aleks Presnikovs

I got word a few hours ago...Aleks died two weeks ago in the care of his sisters in Michigan.

Let it never be said that I was unwilling to do anything for him and his needs. I am going to miss him a great deal, and feel cheated that we knew each other only a little while in the scheme of our respective lives.

He once told me a story of him and his buddies just taking off, straight from work or school or whatever, on the day of the first snow, to drive to Colorado and hit the ski slopes all weekend. So that's where I will imagine him, gliding along the trails of white powder, or sitting by the fireplace in the lodge for an apre-ski party with all his good friends.

The Lion's Roar

The Lion's Roar was a heavy shower overnight, and snow this afternoon. The snow didn't stick yet but I expect more is coming.

The Sun Came Out...Too Little And Too Late

Overnight and much of the day we had snow here. The ground was too warm for it to stick other than in the shaded places, but the sound of sheet ice tumbling off the roof woke me up this morning. The sun's breaking through the clouds now, but the rest of the day is still horridly dreary.

I had planned on travel tommorow but now I doubt I'll feel like it. Sometimes Cabin Fever is the lesser of two ills.

Yesterday...

...Was the first day since March that I didn't post anything.

It wasn't that I didn't have anything to talk about. I could have talked about football or video or the event going on at Paul Francis' place or the holiday shopping or the snow or Moonshine or whatever.

I was just under-enthused. Snow brings out the "bleh" in me.
