Went to a seminar from Artec 3D on Friday afternoon.  I'm very impressed with their machines--but I'm so far behind on the tech that I'd have to spend loads of money to get caught up again.

Camera and scanner work. Now I can finish old projects and move on to new ones.

I retrieved my license for the graphics program I use (LViewPro) and got it operational again. So now I can take photos, scan, and even create "2nd Player" versions of manga characters. Now I have to check to see whether I'll need new drivers for my scanner and camera...

I found some old Sony VHS tape labels and scanned them. Yes, they are in Japanese; I bought the tapes at a tech store's "going out of business" sale some years ago. I plan to play around with the graphics and learn some new techniques in the process.

This will be the default front cover for my personal home-made DVD case inserts. I found it in a Q.M. Dabney bookstore catalog; the artwork was made for the official history of the Naval Air Technical Training Command in World War Two.

Screenshots Meme
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Comment with a request to see absolutely anything on my computer. My desktop, my documents, my iTunes, my favorites, my latest Photoshop experiment... absolutely whatever you are curious about. Request it.
2. I will respond with a screenshot of the very thing you request. (To the best of my ability)
3. In return, you will spread this meme far and wide. Like a venereal disease.

Note: I use LViewPro rather than Photoshop, and WinAmp rather than iTunes, but sure, I'm game. Screenshots will be limited in size due to Yuku's hosting rules.

1) Proofing Mom's novella--DONE. She zaps it off to her publisher today.

2) Antarctic Press concept...next in the pipeline. Need to further refine the concept.

3) Magazine review for IPMS/USA...well, I'm waiting on something from THEM.

4) Gotta scan some stuff for my buddy in Knoxville. Which means rooting through boxes of old hoarded magazines. Not really looking forward to it, but I'm sure I'll get it done in the next week or so.

CHARACTER A: Is it a dog?

CHARACTER B: Sure. Of course it is.

CHARA A: Is it a Panzer Dog?

CHARA B: Hell no.

CHARA A: Why not?

CHARA B: It's a SABER Dog!

CHARA A: OW! Why'd you have to do that to me?

CHARA B: You did it to yourself!

The Saber Dog in question, as it sat in Chilhowie Park in Knoxville before it was moved to the Air Guard Base at McGhee-Tyson Airport in 1999 for restoration and repaint. By request of the guys at the IPMS/USA local to which I belong.

The default setting on my graphics program is 72 pixels/inch.

Thanks to having a new scanner, I'm going back through my old photos.

Man, I'm lacking. (To put it mildly.)

I've scanned five pictures of myself so far and they all look ugly. I mean, torture test for the hardware ugly. I don't smile pretty, and my folks want to pose me when they take the shot. And then they take too long to trip the shutter and I just look nervous. Bah.

Hey.

Got my new scanner this afternoon. Canon LiDE 60.

Don't really care for the software, tho'. I guess what I'll do is use a graphics program as a main app and use the Canon soft as a subapp.

Hey.

Because the service charges were getting higher than the interest, I pulled my money out of my savings account today. I hope to invest some of it in a replacement scanner, as my long-time unsupported Artec gave up at about the time the power surge kay-o'ed the hard drive on my mother's compy and led to other such problems. I think there's actually something physically wrong with the Artec, but I don't have any way to check. But I think I got about my money's worth from it.

I went to the M'Town Office Max and Sears this afternoon. OM only carries one brand of flatbed scanner and I wasn't very impressed. The Sears electronics department was being rearranged today, so there was no point in asking for help from a salesman. I'm not sure that Radio Shack bothers with computer peripherals anymore.

I just went to the websites for Office Depot and Staples. Staples has better selection but OD seems to have better prices. I'll probably try Best Buy as well...presuming I can get over to that side of town this week.

Don't they even make flatbed scanners bigger than letter-size anymore? I could actually use something a little bigger, for larger magazines and posters and books and blueprints and the like. It's kind of frustrating to have to make multiple scans of an object and then have to merge the files together to make it whole again.

I certainly didn't care for his TV show...

I still don't know what's wrong with my scanner. I finally got into CMOS (which I still call BIOS for no real reason) and set it to EPP-friendly modes, but no dice. The software is giving me error messages.

And again, I got the demo DVD from The Tube (music video network) overday and there's some fairly good stuff upon it. If you want it, go to their website, seek out the "Corporate" area and you'll find a place to write them.

Hey.

First attempt at using the scanner since I got my computer back from service and it's not working again. I guess (as I'm now holding to my Dictum of NO TECH SUPPORT AFTER MIDNIGHT) I'll have to try to fix it later.

I'm bummed.

Finally got my scanner working...turns out it was someting too stupid to mention.

Now I'm trying to get caught back up on pages I should have scanned by now but hadn't gotten to.

Hey.

Trying to get my scanner working...I had some very brief shining moments of near-success, but now I'm only getting error messages--"Fail to adjust to an adequate color balance value." I've tried reconfiguring the driver program's compatibility mode, the BIOS mode for the parallel port, switching the power cord, switching the I/O cord, nuthin'.

Gonna call my "tech support" on Tuesday and see what up. Perhaps I'll have an extra PP installed just for the scanner (and use the main one solely for the printer).

As tech issues, this isn't so bad. But I want my scanner back operational!
