I had a dream that you were in the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? You were like the character played by George Clooney after he escaped from a prison chain gang. Can you picture it? You were wearing a striped jailbird suit, and a ball and chain were still cuffed around your ankle. But you were sort of free, too. You were on the lam, making your way from adventure to adventure as you eluded those who would throw you back in the slammer. You were not yet in the clear, but you seemed to be en route to total emancipation. I think this dream is an apt metaphorical depiction of your actual life right now. Could you somehow use it in designing your Halloween costume?

As you contemplate what you want to be for Halloween, don't consider any of the following options: a thoroughbred racehorse wearing a blindfold; a mythic centaur clanking around in iron boots; a seahorse trying to dance on dry land. For that matter, Sagittarius, I hope you won't come close to imitating any of those hapless creatures even in your non-Halloween life. It's true that the coming days will be an excellent time to explore, analyze, and deal with your limitations. But that doesn't mean you should be overwhelmed and overcome by them. Halloween costume suggestions: Houdini, an escaped prisoner, a snake molting its skin.
I wish I could escape...was out driving today and heard some very frightful noises coming out of Moonshine's brakes. I don't think I could go far without a getaway ride.

Nays And Ayes
Nay, I am not dressing up for Halloween this time around. I'm just not in a party mood. We're ready for the little kid crowd if they come by, but they usually don't around here, because the schools and churches bend over backwards to throw parties for them.
Truth is, the level of discourse on the Web today scares me more than any haunted-house story. People just can't get along. The bad times have been bad so long that it's bringing out the bad in everybody. I just wonder how much worse it can get, or if it will ever get any better.
Aye, I received a JC Whitney Catalog for the first time in probably a decade today. It's not as much fun as it used to be, but it's all color (as opposed to NO color except the cover back in 1974 when I first saw them!) and the coolest stuff is included. The whole idea now is to point customers at their website or their phone sales line and have them place orders that way...you can't exactly buy much mail older from the catalog like you used to.
Moonshine could probably use some of the tweaks offered by Whitney, but the main brainstorm is still the as yet unacquired Bradley. I noticed that the site Electricar is a blog about a likeable project car, and I'll probably go over as much of that as I can.

We really aren't this time around. We have candy for any kids who may show up, but there haven't been these last several years. I'm wearing my Desert Storm-vintage "chocolate chip" battledress top and pants--as per FreeWill Astrology's advice to emulate a "peaceful warrior", but that's the extent of my cosplaying. We haven't done any decoration and we aren't going to any parties or anything like that.
Halloween is a lot more fun for kids than adults these days. I have to agree with the types who say that mass media horror has gotten so saturated in the culture that the joy is drained out of the holiday in these times.

I don't anymore. Not much point to it, being where I live and how old I am and the fact that I don't have any kids. I've got a skull-&-crossbones t-shirt with a glow-in-the-dark graphic on it...and that's about as far as I go. I wish I could get a new Jolly Roger shirt with the same gimmick, but that's not going to happen anytime soon, I fear.

Writer's Block: Life is a masquerade

There's hardly any point for me. I live in the boonies, nobody invites me to parties (and justifiably, if I have to say so) and I don't have an obligation to dress up through work or school. I've done the cosplay thing at one sci-fi convention, and it was a mediocre experience that I don't care to repeat.
My sempai in Florida is a huge fan of cosplay and sends me disks with hundreds of pictures of other fans in costume...and I'm too old and too poor and too lacking in talent to pull that level of stagecraft off.

Random Post-Saturday Thoughts
Spent a lot of Saturday at LucasFrancis, as the 1st Sat of the month is usually his "build day", so the guys can hang out and work on special projects. Only his special project for the weekend is packing ECTO-1 to go to its new home Up North. So we spent much of the afternoon watching Iron Man on his DVD player. My thoughts on that movie later.
And my Mom met Paul and some of his friends.
And I worked a little on a Gundam model graft job for Sempai Mike.
And I gave Paul an old Stereo cart to match the cart under his antique DuMont television set. We lost the Stereo turntable set that came with the cart long ago, and so it was gathering dust and taking up space in the guest room since we moved here. The two carts look so similar that they can both be used for the same displays.
The Halloween candy is nearly gone already, but we bought only about a pound and a half...nearly a week in advance. I'm surprised what we had lasted this long. We had no trick-or-treat kids in our neighborhood. We did, however, have rowdy boys t.p.-ing people's yards.
My Halloween costume, as usual, was only my two-decade-old Jolly Roger t-shirt, with the glow-in-the-dark skull-&-crossbones. Maybe someday I'll do something more elaborate...Heaven knows that the possibilities available through Paul's shop are considerable. Again, it's the desire that is lacking.

...But we didn't see any. Trick-or-Treat kids. No surprise, really, as the weather was windy and rainy, and these days the kids go to church or school parties--at least the ones from around here.
We had a dish of chocolate bars and some of my toy balloon stash (oranges and whites) on a table at the front door. You never know. It's not like they call to make reservations or anything.
I think I only did Trick-or-Treating five times in my life. We moved to "the country" when I was twelve and it was then that part of my childhood was over. Sure, I'd dressed up in costume for school Halloween celebrations, but that's not the same.
