2) My days as a performer, if I ever had them, are over.

1) Out of curiousity years ago, I looked over the Top 100 lists for the Eighties for covers, just to see how many songs of the "Re-Decade" would be worthy of an album. I came up with two volumes.

VOLUME I
* You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling (Hall & Oates)
* [Ghost] Riders In The Sky (The Outlaws)
* Working In The Coal Mine (DEVO)
* Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go? (Soft Cell) [Yes, BOTH the songs are remakes!]
* Oh Pretty Woman (Van Halen)
* Wake Up Little Susie (Simon & Garfunkle [live version])
* Stop In The Name Of Love (The Hollies)
* You Belong To Me (The Doobie Brothers)
* Red Red Wine (UB40)
* Beast Of Burden (Bette Midler)
* California Girls (David Lee Roth)
* Get It On [Bang A Gong] (The Power Station)
* Smokin' In The Boys' Room (Motley Krue)
* Dancing In The Street (Mick Jagger & David Bowie)
* Lover Come Back To Me (Dead Or Alive)
* You Can't Hurry Love (Phil Collins)

VOLUME II
* Needles & Pins (Tom Petty with Stevie Nicks)
* The Harlem Shuffle (The Rolling Stones)
* The Peter Gunn Theme (The Art Of Noise)
* Venus (Bananarama)
* Walk Like A Man (The Mary Jane Girls)
* Walk This Way (Run-DMC with Steve Tyler)
* I Didn't Mean To Turn You On (Robert Palmer)
* Earth Angel (New Edition)
* California Dreamin' (The Beach Boys)
* Runaway (Luis Cardenas)
* War (Bruce Springsteen)
* That's Life (David Lee Roth)
* Lean On Me (Club Nouveau)
* What's Going On (Cyndi Lauper)
* Wipe Out (The Fat Boys with The Beach Boys)
* I Think We're Alone Now (Tiffany)
* Always On My Mind (The Pet Shop Boys)
* The Loco-Motion (Kylie Minogue)
* Groovy Kind Of Love (Phil Collins)
* I Love Your Way/Freebird (Will To Power)

"Kentucky Rain". I wish the Pet Shop Boys had remade it the same time they remade "Always On My Mind".

1. If you'd like to play along, reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. You then list (and upload or link to the video, if you feel like it) 5 (or 6 or 7) songs that start with that letter.
3. Then, as I'm doing here, you'll post the list to your journal with the instructions.
Dig that!

[personal profile] nick_101 gave me the letter R.

1) Blondie, "Rapture"

2) Duran Duran, "The Reflex"

3) Talking Heads, "Road To Nowhere"

4) The Beatles (after Chuck Berry), "Roll Over Beethoven"

5) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, "Refugee"

BONUS TRACKS
Brian Adams, "Run To You"; Herb Alpert, "Rise"; The B-52s, "Roam"; Breakfast Club, "Right On Track", The Clash, "Rock The Casbah"; Melissa Etheridge, "Resist"; Led Zepplin, "Ramble On"; Joni Mitchell, "Raised On Robbery"; Styx, "Renegade".

Happy Bastille Day!

And This Is A Vid To Watch FRAME-BY-FRAME! )

I think this was my favorite song of the whole 1970s decade. Nothing else seems to come close.

I realized that among my enormous list of favorite songs, there aren't that many that I'd feel comfortable with friends singing it at a party in my honor. Anybody else admit to that?

I doubt they have ever had a "major role", but I have a number of favorites:

Diesel "Sausalito Summer Night"
Ace "How Long (Has This Been Going On)"

(The more research I do, the more I see that acts I thought of as One-Hit Wonders actually...weren't. And in the other responses I see some people are counting bands that weren't One-Hit Wonders either. A great many had long careers overseas and then only crossed over to America for one or two songs. Do they count or not? *shrug*)

IF A MOVIE WAS MADE OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
Here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, etc).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question press the next button.

Ready? GO! The Soundtrack of DREAD & TERROR--Volume Two! ) I hadn't done this before as I have only used WinAmp for a little while and didn't figure Shuffle Mode till just today.

"#1: List the first lyrics of the first fifteen songs that you hear on your music player of choice, throwing out the ones where the title is in the first line, that don't have lyrics, that no one has a chance in hell of getting, or that are in languages you don’t speak.

#2: See who gets it. Particularly difficult (IMO) songs are marked with asterisks."

(I had to modify this, as I don't have a "player"...and I was fretting that I might not have enough music CDs. Okay, here goes:)

1) Gotta catch up, that's okay, but they got me workin' night and day
2) Move yourself, you always live your life, never thinking of the future--"Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes (PWNED by [profile] thegameiam)
* 3) Little Boy Blue come blow your horn, the beds are made but the sheets are torn
4) Her hair is hollow gold, lips a sweet surprise--"Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes (Spied by [profile] mravac_kid)
* 5) Life is so strange, when you don't know
6) If I had a mind to, I wouldn't wanna think like you
7) There is freedom within, there is freedom without, try to catch the deluge in a paper cup--"Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House ("Hey Now"-ed by [personal profile] cygnia)
8) I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby, I'm sure--"Walking On Sunshine" by Katrina and the Wave (brightly stepped by [livejournal.com profile] vsprtn)
9) I hear the drums echoing tonight, cheers only whispers of some quiet conversation--"Africa" by Toto (Brought Back Alive by [profile] thegameiam)
* 10) Why are you in such a hurry? Is it really worth the worry?
11) Looking in your eyes I see a paradise, this world that I found is too good to be true
12) You gave me love, you did me wrong, I didn't know what to do
* 13) You are the love of my life, you are my inspiration
* 14) The deception with tact, just what are you trying to say?
15) Hey, don’t worry, I’ve been lied to, I’ve been here many times before

I don't think any of these songs are more recent than 1990.

Hey.

This virus refuses to go quietly. So instead of attempting to occupy your fervent minds directly, I'll just grab something out of my hard drive and see if you readers (I think there's more than one, but I can't be sure) can help me.

I have space in my compact disk travel case for 14 CDs. Below is my very long list of favorite songs. Now I know that I can't fit all of them onto 14 CDs, but I'd like to know which 14 would include the best combination of these songs. So here we go:

FAVORITE SONGS (Alphabetized by Artist)

* Blowing Kisses In the Wind (Paula Abdul)Read more... )
* Velcro Fly (ZZ Top)
