The last couple days I've been helping my buddy Paul go through the archives of a former Hollywood "prosthetics and animatronics" house (better known as a "creature shop") for his former boss--a master at the art, a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein who made monsters for his living. So far I've counted over 60,000 photos from various productions, including half a dozen Stephen King movies, the live-action Cat In The Hat, the re-imagined The Outer Limits, Charmed, Species, Blade, Red Planet, Big Fish, Eaters of the Dead, TV commercials, music videos, and even projects that never saw production or release.

What's weird is that a lot of this stuff, I never saw on film or on screen. As said, I'm not a horror fan. Or that much into fantastic cinema.

All of this stuff was made in the decade and a half since the printing of my latest Leonard Maltin film guide. I guess I need to get "read up" all over again.

You want to talk about weird coincidences? On the Kenzerco game company boards, I was in the middle of concocting a Knights of the Dinner Table story wherein the characters are playing a game scenerio...the premise being how WW3 starts with the attempted capture of Osama Bin Laden and the assassination (by NPCs) of the Pakistani Prime Minister. I'd started this weeks ago.

I just related that nightmare scenerio to my parents...mentioning my opinion that if the Iranian government--or elements thereof--claimed (or was proved) to have been responsible for the death of Benezir Bhutto, the U.S. and Russia would be morally obliged to declare war on each other due to mutual defense treaties. So Bhutto would become our generation's Archduke Ferdinand.

The fuse is burning toward the powderkeg.

* * *

Meanwhile another war has been ongoing. Proof that no matter how fanatic I'd be about any subject, there is always somebody far more fervent and energetic about it.

Air Force Rolls Out 15 Ton Conventional Bomb. Now, a mere 15 tons doesn't sound like much. It's still bigger than any conventional warhead ever put into series production...and any plane that can carry a 15 ton bomb can easily carry a nuke instead.

One of my long-time predictions was that all Hell would break loose the month of August, 2006. And I mean Hell Breaking Loose as even worse than anything bad that happens in the Bible. John the Divine had a mundane imagination.

A touchstone element of the prophecy was a change in leadership in Cuba.

Now I know what's happening is analogous to when Bush sr. took over for Reagan during his surgery...but what do we know about the quality of Cuban medicine?

Either way, I'll have to be monitoring the news very closely. How much you wanna bet that Iran test-detonates an atomic bomb within 30 days? How much you wanna bet that Mainland China invades Taiwan? How much you wanna bet that gasoline goes to five dollars a gallon?

The other day, I figured out a really great way to totally destroy Western Civilization as we know it. Almost all the pieces are in place to do it too. And it would also be impossible to defend against, its damage would be measured in millions of lives lost, cities (maybe whole countries!) wiped off the face of the Earth, all that jazz. Almost as bad as the last great extinction event millions of years ago.

I'm not going to say another word about the idea unless I find somebody willing to pay me hard currency for it. Sure, I have reason to be pissed at the world, but I'm not THAT pissed.

"A preemptive attack is not (the) monopoly of the US, and North Korea will never sit idle till it is exposed to a preemptive attack of the US," Defense Minister Kim Il-Chol said, according to the official Korean Central News Agency.

He is talking about them using their nukes without provocation.

Did I mention that I'm a Horseman of the Apocalypse? I'm Famine.

I could have told that idiot (from the previous entry) that God doesn't use the Gregorian Calendar to tell time. These twerps never learn.

Hey.

The local TV news here just aired the rantings of a kook who believes Judgment Day is only five hours away or so. America is to be devastated by the Wrath of God, starting with the top five major cities.

I don't know what's worse...that times are bringing this insanity out or that the local media would give creedence to this madness.

Either way, if the world fails to end by Saturday, I will consider all subsequent prophets as false ones. This isn't doubt, it's policy.

According to memri.org, the leaders of the Abu Hafs Al-Masri Brigade (one of the largest of the Jihadist "terror organizations") has given their followers/cells the green light to carry out attacks against American interests around the world--and already claims to have active units in the United States itself.

If this is true, it is proof positive that we are LOSING the "war on terror". I'm willing to bet they will succeed in causing at least one large-scale terror attack before they are stopped--if they get stopped at all. I have no faith in the capability of our civil security services against a determined insurgent force.

If I were in charge of a Jihadist band, I'd put together a raid on the base camp at Guantanamo Bay to liberate the detainees. Even if the raid fails, it would be a propaganda coup and make a general defeat of America look possible. If the raid succeeds, perhaps the Cubans could exploit the chaos and kick the Yankees off the island for good.

Not that I support any of this. Unfortunately I'm still an American.

Hey.

No overall theme to this post, just the usual stuff that's been on my mind these days.

1) You know a World War is coming when high-powered regional archrivals begin collecting mutual-defense treaties from "White Knights". A few months ago, India and Great Britain signed an MDT...this past week, Mainland China and Pakistan signed one. Were events like this more widely reported in the press of 1914 or 1939? I only found out about the PRC/Pak Pact because I was looking for something else in GoogleNews...the story didn't get much attention from the mainstream press here because of the death of the Pope and other close-to-home issues.

Does this mean if Mainland China moves on Taiwan and the U.S. responds militarily, that Pakistan can break off ties with the U.S.--and call to a halt their end of the hunt for Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida? Will further alliances be drawn by the Central Asian republics? If war breaks out involving India and China, what's that going to do to the U.S. economy?--especially as China is a labor and energy market competitor and India is a major tech support provider to the U.S.?

And since Mainland China is a military-hardware provider to Iran, does this mean a further entrenchment on that front?

Whose cities are China's nuclear weapons pointed at? India's? England's? Ours?

2) I'm working on a scale model motorcycle for IPMS and that's keeping me a little busy.

3) Past and Place: I have been racking my brain off and on trying to remember the name of a shopping plaza in Clearwater at the corner of US 19 and NE Coachman. It's no longer in existance; it got torn down around 1990 or so to make way for a WalMart. It didn't have much in the way of fancy stores but I visited the Hobby Box and Toy Box every so often and even ate a lunch at the Chinese restaurant one day.

I don't know why I'm even trying to remember. It's just one of those things.

4) I forgot to mention that my brother returned the copy of "Rock N Roll" he borrowed from me a week ago. I should get him his own copy...or perhaps a better book, one more up to date.

5) My mother and I have become horribly addicted to Bejeweled 2. I'm trying not to let it affect my work but it does.

6) Little by little, I'm trying to wrap up "Chillin' Out" and get to work blocking the sequel/follow up "Gilded Cage".

7) I updated my resume on Monster.com yesterday. I'll probably search their job listings Monday.

Hey.

Events of recent days have made me feel even more scared than usual.

1) The reaction to Cardinal Law's Mass. According to the report from National Public Radio's "All Things Considered", Roman Catholics outside the U.S. think that the sex scandals of recent years involving Catholic clergy were in fact a U.S. Government conspiracy perpetrated to bring down the church's political power in America. This coupled with the past Pope's opposition to U.S. foreign policy (including the wars in the Middle East) may mean a shift in sentiment in the church. I expect the next Pope to either be hostile to the U.S. or at least play to that side of the church's followers.

2) What happened in Washington. Okay, the man looked "suspicious". (Ultimately, don't we all?) But I'm afraid of the international reaction to the footage of the "takedown"...especially in China. If the man really is a Chinese national, it's going to exacerbate the sentiment there. I can just hear the propaganda machine: "This is how they treat Chinamen there--they beat them senseless for just standing around! What barbarism!" I fear that if this or something else finally ticks off the Chinese and they embargo/boycott us, it could throw what's left of our economy out of kilter. They're already beating us--they could BURY us. And then nuke us.

3) The candidate for U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. We need somebody who will get people to listen, not move in and think he can dictate to the world!

4) The usual saber rattling over North Korea, Syria, Iran and so on. Some of the bigwigs in Iran are claiming they already have nukes and are looking for "martyrs"--perhaps so they'll deliver the nukes to the Great Satan. Maybe they'll do it in Bagdad, maybe they'll do it in Tel Aviv...or maybe they'll do it in New York City or Washington. With the Iraqization of the insurgency war finally hitting its stride, instead of bringing the troops home, how likely is it that the Bush Administration will just launch another war somewhere else? Several months ago, I guessed the war with Iran would happen by August of this year, and I see no reason not to hold to the prediction now.

What is it with us these days? Why are we going out of our way to suck? Are we intentionally pissing the rest of the world off in the sick hopes of causing Armageddon? Do our leaders feel that we need to be the villains of some awful Revelation Passion Play so that Jesus can return?

At this point I don't WANT to know Jesus.
