I have a group of colleagues who half-jokingly, half-sincerely refer to themselves as the Shamanic Hackers of Karmic Justice. The joking part of it is that the title is so over-the-top ostentatious that it keeps them from taking themselves too seriously. The sincere part is that they really do engage in shamanic work designed to help free their clients from complications generated by old mistakes. Since you're entering the season of adjustment and atonement, I asked them to do some corrective intervention in your behalf. They agreed, with one provision: that you aid and abet their work by doing what you can to liberate yourself from the consequences of wrong turns you made in the past.
The way I see it, tho', I'm in a state of karmic ambiguity, as the path I'm trying to approach hasn't shown itself to be a right path OR a wrong one yet.

I'm not sure he would believe I survived as I have. There had always been a part of me that wanted to go for the gusto, even if it meant the high likelihood of dying young. And in conflict with that, the habit of running with the scares and hiding and enduring. (I was about to make the joke from the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in which Q takes Picard back to his Academy days and say "Red shirt, or Blue?"--and I realize that I'm wearing the Red shirt--my nee-Char Aznable costume shirt! The joke is on me!)

Tennessee just changed the immunization requirements for secondary education this year, and all of a sudden they need proof that I got my MMR shots. My problem is that I got those so long ago that my pediatrician is dead, buried and had a public library named for him. I'm not sure my records have even survived the decades and moves that have happened since. But I have to have a doctor sign off on me so I can re-submit my enrollment papers to Tech School. Can a doctor just do a look-up on me just from my name and SSN? Or am I going to have to go to some state health department office somewhere?

Don't have a kid. I come from the mimeograph and filmstrip era of education. Sure, in high school we had the first mass-produced PCs and video equipment to play around with, but beyond that we were still in the old school of old school.

Jan. 20th, 2009 04:30 pmOn my way back to my house after a shopping trip, I drove behind a pickup truck with racist anti-Obama bumper stickers on it.
My feeling is that perhaps the greater America is ready for an African-American President, but too many Americans are going to judge Obama by the color of his skin before he shows us enough of his character for them to decide if he's American FIRST. And some don't want to give him a chance AT ALL.

I've already lived THROUGH the era I've really wanted to live through, in spite of my adolescent desire to go back to help fight WW2.
What can I say? Peace suited me better than war, and I'm not soldier material.
