Time to play catch-up and clean-up.

Dad's fine. The endoscopies succeeded in reopening his esophagus and he is back to his ol' self. We'll have to go back to the hospital for paperwork but that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm close to finishing the MiG-17 model on my table and will work on the Daleks next. That is, if I can figure out which pieces go to which Dalek.

I need to get a syllabus for my courses. I went to Morristown but the campus bookstore was closed. They don't have a library. I'll go back Monday morning.

I'm gonna hate Autumn. Tennessee has a bumper tobacco crop this year, so the farms are going to burn a LOT of tailings at harvest time. There is no way to escape the "addressed to occupant" smoke. Imagine the worse cigar you ever smelled multiplied by twenty.

Did I mention that the week I planned to travel to Florida is also finals week at the school? I wonder how I'm going to finagle that--or if I'll have a choice.

My gamer side continues to be tempted. At the Ross in Morristown, I saw a couple deluxe packs of Mechwarrior a.k.a. "ClickyTech" pieces. At a price that would make each individual mini cost about a dollar. I don't need them; I'd have to unbase them and repaint them; nobody plays either of the two other main mecha wargames in this scale (CAV and Heavy Gear Blitz) in these parts. But it's hard to practice due temperance. Especially if there is "surplus funding" as a possibility.

My folks don't understand my anxiety at the prospect of going to school again. My problem is that while I'm doing this for the sake of my career, I have no idea where I want this to lead and it scares me. It's not like there is a place nearby where I hope to find employment. It's not like the aerospace industry is in a growth spurt, or that the airlines are out of trouble. Will things be better once I'm finished?--No idea.

BTW, I got a piece of junk mail from Strayer University the same day of my TTCM orientation...they look like the academic equivalent of Kentucky Fried Chicken--they only have a limited list of specialty offerings and they have locations all over the place. There is less here than meets the eye and much of what they have you could get at better colleges.

Mum's career is keeping me busy. I think I'll have to design and print her business cards for her. I wonder how much I'd have to charge a stranger for all the tech services I do for Mum everyday.
