In this case, Gundam into Classic Battletech.

I've been pouring over the Tech Manual and trying to see how some of them would work. And even though the latest generation of CBT has some real sweet hardware to play with, it's tougher than it was back in the late Eighties when I started.

* Land-Air Mechs--GONE. So no alternative modes for Zeta, Double Zeta, Re-GZ, Victory, Wing, Wing Zero...

* Shields--GONE. Loads of mobile suits have these.

* Massive Melee Weapons--IMPRACTICABLE. By the latest rules, Mechs bigger than 40 Tons can't pack Hatchets, and bigger than 80 Tons can't use Swords. They all can use Retractable Blades, but there's no way of making those nastier except using Triple-Strength Myomer. Even though it's possible to make a Deathscythe Hell with Stealth Armor and Improved Jump Jets...why build one if you can't mount that Big@$$ energy sickle?

There are other pieces of hardware available to BattleArmor units that aren't possible on Mechs, and I have to ask "why not?" every so often.

My original plan was to concentrate on Mechs of 60 Tons or more (in keeping with the UC evolution) but I may have to start from 40 Tons just for the Wing and alternative-continuity mobile suits.
