While chasing a research addiction thread, I learned overday that the United States leg of the World Series Formula V8 3.5 tour will be at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas the third weekend of September.

And I wish I could go see it in person.

It won't be on American broadcast TV because it will be the height of gridiron season and all the networks that bother have committments with the NCAA conferences.

Since it was the Austin office to which I filed my 2009 return, and since it was long enough ago that I sent it there, I went to the IRS official website just now to check on its status.

The Good News: my refund will go out in about two weeks. And get to me well before my planned vacation.

The Bad News: the IRS "recalculated" my refund, so instead of being enough to fund my whole trip, it'll be enough to get me a new pair of walking shoes and maybe a meal at Fat Boys in Brooksville. So I'm going to have to pare back my itinerary a leetle. But I'm not worried.

PS: I've noticed, via Hernando Today, that Fat Boys was eventually replaced by the new-and-completely-different Woodside Inn. I wonder if the Coney Island Hot Dog Stand is still around.

PPS: Coney Island Drive-In is still there. Elvis ate there. A scene from a zombie movie was filmed there. We must include it in the March Maraud.

Re: Austin...

After all the troubles I'd had with the IRS these last several years--especially at the AUSTIN office, what happened there today only surprises me by degrees.

And to complete my post on "(Don't Fear) The Reaper"...until I read the lyrics that came with the video I'd posted the other day, I thought the song ended with a woman jilting her lover by committing suicide.

A few days ago, when another LJ'er was commenting on the politics of the time, I said:

I'm just waiting for the next Ruby Ridge, Waco or Oklahoma City incident. I don't trust things to stay civil and non-violent for long now.

And guess what?--Politically-motivated violence, if you believe the advertising. Is your bomb shelter stocked up? You may need it before it's all over.

In other news I go to Asheville to help my brother move. I'm not looking forward to the physicality of this enterprise.
