Still very much a Team Yankee wanna-be...and still nowhere near having an army ready.

Partly, I'm trying to determine the "character" of my forces, and partly, I'm trying to get the best deal I can on the pieces.  It used to be that diecast tanks in Team Yankee's scale were thick on the ground and you could buy them at just any dollar store toy department.  Not any more.  Now I have to try to scrounge them in antique and thrift stores--if they've got any.

On Saturday I played the demo version of the new Team Yankee permutation of Flames of War and again I want to build an army in the worst way.

Years ago I could have gotten diecast tanks in the right size/scale for the game, but now they seem to be scarce, which means I'll probably troll every thrift store I can find in five or six counties for the things, if there are any to be found.  Most of the ones I'd seek would have been made by Motormax or Polyfect, specifically the Cold War designs.  (I'd bought the Motormax Sherman, Churchill and T34-85 for the WW2 version of Flames of War, but I since have gotten rid of those.)

I dreamt that I was in a sort of virtual reality wargame. My squad was about to make an expedition, and at the motor pool we requested motorcycles. But they told us all their bikes were either in use or out of commission, and issued us tanks. It caused me no gloom. I told my fellows, "I'll take the Chi-Ha. I know I can drive that."

Farmers in Morocco can earn 40 times more money by growing marijuana instead of avocados or tomatoes. Meanwhile, my friend René brings in ten times the salary she used to make as a secretary by working as a stripper at a nightclub. That means she can devote less time to earning a living and has more time to do what she loves, which is playing music. I expect that you've received or will soon receive a comparable opportunity or temptation, Sagittarius. I'm not sure what the morally correct action will be. But I do urge you to try to put your long-term interests above your short-term interests.

Strangely, I've already been moving in this direction. Just today I engaged in some arms trading--I sold a platoon's worth of tanks (remote-controlled toys converted to wargame use) and will ship them out today or tomorrow, depending on funding.

Did I mention that one of my mother's best friends used to be a stripper?

Lego people scale to roughly 1/45th.

The above is how I know. Nephew is visiting, and I helped him build this, which I surmise he got for his birthday (which was about a month ago or so).

Never dreamed I'd ever blog about Legos.

The two pictures above are current, Chinese People's Liberation Army troops in the "Aggressor" role playing American G.I.'s. The tank is a Chinese Type 69 converted to look like the M1A1 Abrams. (PS: I tried to do a direct link but ran headlong into the Great Firewall of China...)

The commercial TV networks swept GWBush's comments lauding Taiwan at the expense of Mainland China this week under the rug of other stories, but the Chinese have heard loud and clear...and are rehearsing amphibious landings operations.

I'm thinking of getting a "Blood Chit" for the back of my leather jacket. It may become a collectors item.

Got five of these models at the HobbyTown USA for a dollar each. They will join a bunch of mecha and vehicles in my N Gauge/1:144th scale army.

Them, a tank of fuel for my car, and a hits-collection CD from 1980 rounded out my purchases for the day.

I dare otaku to listen to "Hot Rod Hearts" by Robbie Dupree and NOT think of anime soundtracks...I think it was an inspiration for that flavor of J-Pop.
