Iron Man and Æon Flux
Nov. 2nd, 2008 05:46 pmHey.
Saw Iron Man yesterday and Æon Flux today. Where to begin...
Iron Man's a terrific movie but it left me...wanting. I mean, the mixed message of "these are the sins of the adult world, kids--don't they look cool? Sex! Guns! Rock-n-roll! Big big money!" Maybe if I was twelve or thirteen I'd like it more. You out there who know comics? Answer me this!--Iron Man versus Booster Gold! Who wins? (BTW, PvP accuses Iron Man and this year's version of Hulk of having basically the same plot. Right or wrong?)
Æon Flux shares the same problem of many adaptations from cult cartoon or TV series to the big screen...a final product that is confusing to anybody who hasn't seen the original and insulting to anybody who was a fan of the original. Me? I was confused by the original but found the literal explanations of the plot within the movie much too pat and patronizing. That and the whole mystique of the relationship between Æon and Trevor Goodchild was undercut at the end. And the movie Trevor wasn't snide or cruel or creepy enough...nor was the actual villain of the movie. (And Paul wanted to see the 16-foot tall carnivorous baby.)
