Don't Gripe Unless You Put Forth An Alternative )

...Yes, I hated "We Are The World"--both artistically and philosophically--and I wonder what good that stuff actually did. How many kids actually got saved from starvation in Africa then--and how many of those survived the wars and madness that has wracked northeastern Africa since then?

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of February 4, 2010

In the Choctaw language, there are two kinds of past tenses. In one, you speak about an event or experience that you personally know to be a fact. In the other, you deliver information that you have acquired second-hand and therefore can't definitely vouch for. In my perfect world, you Sagittarians would find a way to incorporate this perspective into all your communications during the coming week. In other words, you would consistently distinguish between the unimpeachable truth and the alleged truth. According to my analysis of the astrological omens, this would give you great power to influence the rhythms of life to flow in your favor.

In this era where truth can be mass-produced, mass-disseminated and mass-ignored, there is a silent, underlying desire for a more solid veracity independent of the firehose of ideas.

Wait, did I just write that? Did I mean what I wrote? All of a sudden I'm not so sure. I'll get back to you when I figure it out.

When I noticed that some Criminal Minds fans were starting an LJ Community for Real Person Fanfiction based on the series, I wondered a little about what they meant...so I looked up the Wikipedia entry...

Oh...kay...

So the concept is based on the premise that the celebrity is the subject of the story, not necessarily the character. And this has been going on since the Bronte kids put the Duke of Wellington's family through a set of literary paces that had nothing to do with history or then-current events.

I can't remember ever doing anything like this. Chillin' Out, however, is a special case, that I want to elaborate upon.

In it, I basically play myself as the story's central character. I'm the only "real" person in the cast; everbody else is an invention. Nothing that I've written about my central character is blatantly contradictory to my own living self. I don't give my real name in full in the story but there are enough clues in the text to say who I am--even though it was written ostensibly under the pseudonym I use here.

But would I be comfortable if I found that SOMEBODY ELSE had been writing fiction about me based on what they read in Chillin' Out? That's a tough question to answer...but I may have to if I get Chillin' Out complete and published for a wider audience than it has enjoyed so far.
