My Base'r Instincts
Jun. 11th, 2009 08:34 pmSince some of the Knoxgamer dudes are playing Battletech, I decided to go back through my collection (which is bigger than I remembered) of Battletech-scale Mech miniatures.
A load of these are plastic knockoffs from Chinese playsets sold at Big Lots, and a few vending machines I knew. So I've been painting them, adding new weapons parts to them and all, and then I realize--I need to BASE these figures!
I found a hex base part from another mini, and went to Hobby Lobby with it. "Hey Mr. Salesman," said I, "what do you have that can substitute for this?"
"Does it have to have the slot?"
"No."
"Does it have to be plastic?"
"No."
"Got just the thing. Follow me." And he leads me to a craft aisle with various little pieces of shaped wood, blocks and chips and sticks. I got a pack of assorted circles--the biggest being about the size of half-dollar pieces--for real cheap. More than enough for my whole Battalion. I'm using the hex base I have as a pattern for cutting the circles into hexes.
Photos may come once I'm finished.
