To set the stage: A few months ago, it was learned that the loan on my Chevy Prizm was down to about $2000. As I had been (long long ago) awarded a block of common stock in a nice middle-of-the-road corporation as part of a class-action judgment, last week I linked up with my account, and sold off a portion of my shares. At first, I thought what I sold would only be a little under $2000. But there was a good burble in the stock market because of the Fed changing the interest rates, and the price changed for the better between my "sell" bid and the actual transaction.

My check came today and I had a neat little surplus after paying the car loan off. So I went shopping.

Books-A-Million--the latest Honorverse novel (At All Costs) and anthology (The Service of the Sword) in paperback.

WestPoint Home--new MarTex blanket to replace the weevil-eaten one. WestPoint is the place to find good deals on linens.

Leaves me with just enough for new Lithium batteries for my digital camera.
