Writer's Block: Where Names Come From

My father's side of the family wanted me to be named after my uncle Tom. My mother, not liking the idea one bit, told them that she was watching the Saint's Days and that I would be named for the nearest Saint's Day to my birthday. Well, I was born closer to Saint Ambrose of Milan's Day than Saint Thomas' Day. So of course, I was named Stephen. (History isn't big enough for two Ambrose Bierces!)
