frustratedpilotI just saw Nova (thank whatever soul decided to have PBS rebroadcast the Prime-Time programming in overnight time slots!) on the history, lore and science of the katana. Modern blacksmiths and craftsmen who keep the art of swordmaking alive. Modern samurai displaying the techniques and skill involved in katana combat. The usual Nova visuals, uncovering the processes at the atomic level that make the katana the unique weapon--and technology--that it had been for centuries.
I can't help but think...who could have been so inspired to understand the natures of metals such to invent such a thing? It just amazes me.
