Sagittarius Horoscope for week of November 6, 2008

"Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth," says Ishmael in Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick, "whenever it is damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses . . . it [is] high time to get to the sea as soon as I can." Use this passage as an inspirational kick-in-the-ass, Sagittarius. There's no need for you to sink into the emotional abyss Ishmael describes. Fix yourself before you're broken! Get to the sea immediately, and prevent the grey glumness from taking over. If there's no ocean nearby, then try the next best things: Walk along a river or lake. Immerse yourself for long stretches in baths and saunas and heated pools. Cry and sweat and come abundantly. Listen to music that makes you feel like you're floating.

He's right! Surf's up!

Hey.

I take stuff to Paul Francis, I get stuff from Paul Francis. What went out: a set of resin Nazi Zombie figures I forgot I had, which I thought (correctly) that he'd like. What came back with me: a pile of Wizard and ToyFare magazine back issues, which a friend of his dumped on him. And a coffee-table book on the making of Batman The Animated Series--one of my favorite things from the Nineties.

And then I got a package in my mail--the Pirates of the Spanish Main cards I had traded for. Since a family friend was visiting for tea, I assembled a ship to show her what the game is about, and she thought it was very clever.

So between this and other things going on in my world, I'll be pretty busy.

If you were unaware, Tennessee went for McCain over Obama by fifteen percentage points. The only areas in the state that Obama did better than McCain were Nashville, Memphis and a few suburbs of Memphis. People here are shocked and dismayed that McCain lost. What's worse, they resent the national coverage of showing the celebrations in the cities and the national Republicans being so quick to give up.

Quite a few people here see Obama as an alien, a traitor and a threat. Perhaps the silent majority will give Obama a chance, but I'm afraid of how many will not and take matters into their own hands. "PUMA" may soon be replaced with "NUMA" (National Unity...).

America may not be racist as a whole, but Tennessee is still more racist than outsiders may realize.

BTW, I considered it a foregone conclusion long ago that Obama would carry the National popular vote and probably the Electoral vote, but totally fail to carry Tennessee. That's why I voted for Brian Moore, in addition to the fact that nobody talked me out of it.
