My Old-Timey Isn't Their Old-Timey
Aug. 7th, 2008 04:09 pmHey.
As a promotion a local store was offering free "Old Tyme" photos taken of their customers today. They had a trailer wagon set up for the photography. Thing is, I've seen a lot of this stuff in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge over the years, and I can't say that it would work for me from the choices usually given. Old West?--Been there, done that. (Mom went Way Out West for a conference/vacation/family reunion when I was a kid, and brought back Western shirts and cowboy hats for me and my brother. I wore that Western shirt for one of my school pictures. Can't say I'm particularly proud of that.) Civil War?--Got a good buddy who is a real re-enactor, and if I wanted to, I could just go to him. Of course, anything "hillbilly" just galls my very strong "Yankee" sensibilities. (Okay, maybe I'm kidding, but I don't like this place very much, and "going native" is as cynical as it is politically incorrect.)
Meanwhile, I've posed in front of P-51 Mustangs, P-40 Warhawks, and various other pieces of airmobile hardware. I've even gotten in the cockpit of a replica Fokker D.VII biplane for a shoot. Not in period costume, tho'.
*Starts rumination*
