Live-Action Movies Planned For "Yatterman" and "Gatchaman"
Nikkatsu has announced live-action film adaptations for the classic anime series "Yatterman" and "Gatchaman". Director Takashi Miike reportedly approached Angelina Jolie for the role of Doronjo.( Read more... )
Index Holdings, Takara Tomy, and "Gatchaman" producers Tatsunoko Productions have established the TCC Limited Liability Partnership to handle the films and make the most of the member company's respective strengths. The three companies already share a close relationship; toy industry giant Takara gained control of Tatsunoko Productions in 2005, and Index Holdings subsequently acquired the bulk of Takara's stock, with Takara then going on to merge with fellow toymaker Tomy to form Takara Tomy.
The live-action movies will be produced by Index Holdings Group member Nikkatsu, with plots by Tatsunoko Productions. Takashi Miike will direct, with mecha and character design by industry veteran Katsuya Terada. The films are tentatively scheduled for a spring 2009 release.
As Battle of the Planets is one of my childhood cultural foundations, I have to say I'll be watching for this.
