Hey.

Today, my dad asks me if I want to do a job for him. I ask him what he means and he tells me that the second hand on his cheap watch has fallen out of its place on the dial. And so, after attempting to get at the front of the watch, I give up and simply remove the second hand from it and put the hand in a safe place, so I can try again later.

He doesn't need a second hand on his watch. He lives on his own "schedule". If he has an appointment anywhere it's with the people at the V.A. Hospital, which is three towns over and will keep him waiting anyway. At his age, he is fairly socially liberated when it comes to temporal matters. So fixing a second hand that's broken is more of a nicety than an emergency.

As for my watch, it's a nice Pulsar he bought me for graduating college in '92. It's more than digital, it's graphical. Doesn't have hands. And it hasn't needed a fresh battery in ten years. The only adjustments I have to do with it are to set it on and off Daylight Savings, or to switch time zones.

Now if only time can be as kind to me as I am to it, I'd be all set.
