The Real Thanksgiving

Today is the real Thanksgiving...at least at Rather Manor. Yes, we may have a feast on Thursday too, but the Church to which Mum and Dad belong does a neighborhood-wide superfeast, both on-site and delivered. So I'll have my quota of turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes--and perhaps a slice of cake (I'll let everybody else have the pumpkin pie)--tonight for my dinner whether I go with the folks or stay here. And I'll likely stay here.

Earlier today I went to Harbour Freight in Knoxville and picked up the highest-priority tools for my purposes: a measuring set of calipers, dividers and scales; a combination square with multiple heads; a screwdriver set; a steel ruler; a mini flashlight. I'd toyed with the idea of buying more tools then and there, but decided against that because I'll be doing more shopping at the local Lowe's tomorrow and will try to complete my list that way. Besides, there's only so much me and Moonshine can carry at once. (I'll have to borrow Dad's Dodgepodge to transport the tool cabinet piece d'resistance.)

New Astrology For December

Sagittarius )

I don't like mayo or butter on my turkey sandwiches. And I hear that kosher macrobiotic turkeys, once they've been properly brined, are plenty tasty.

Year of the Horse )

I've had so many spiritless holidays in my life so far, I have a hard time imagining how it could change this year--especially this year.

Winter Frikkin' Already

Today was gray and dreary and cold. I've been running the space heater in this office all day. I may start wearing longjohns in a day or two if this cold keeps going strong. Overnight it was theoretically cold enough to freeze our water pipes...but it didn't look like it happened.

Turkey Day was today. The church Mom & Dad belong to hosts a big Thanksgiving dinner and they also deliver meals to neighbors all over the area. I stayed here at the house but I got my turkey and mashed potatoes too. I don't know if we'll do another big dinner on Thursday or go to my sister's in Asheville or what. My folks haven't told me their plans. Holidays in general don't mean as much to me now as they did when I was younger.

First Dose of Tryptophan

Hey.

Today is the day that the church Mom & Dad belong to puts on a mass Thanksgiving dinner--not just for the congregation but for the whole neighborhood. Meals with all the fixin's (stuffing, two kinds of potato, green beans, cranberry sauce--and some desserts) are delivered to shut-ins around the neighborhood as well. Both Dad & Mom help out with the cooking and packing and delivering.

My brother paid us a surprise visit today too, so as Mom & Dad ate at the church, he and I ate carry-out dark-meat turkey here.

Tryptophan...and I'll have to take more of it on Thursday.
